| Physical Description | Nyx is a tall, broad man with piercing grey eyes, and a grizzly but short beard. He sports a small scar just south of his left eyelid. He is physically fit and keeps to a regimented routine of diet and exercise. He is quick on his feet and even faster with his fists. During Intelligence Recruit training, he was nicknamed "The Grey", both for his light eyes and lethal dexterity. With his black shoulder-length hair, usually worn pulled tightly at the back and shaven on both sides, he gives the impression of a rugged and no-nonsense man. However, those who know him will recognise that twinkle in his light eyes as a sign of the cheeky, daring man that he really is. Out of uniform, he wears a black, militaristic jacket with silver lapels and ceremonial chain across the front. This was an item custom made for him from a previous home on Lucis V, and his prize possession in all of the galaxy. He typically wears it with black cargo pants and thick, well-worn utility boots. |

| General Overview | Nyx is an energetic and adventurous man, an explorer and traveller looking for new experiences. Growing up, he was often irrepressibly boisterous, with an insatiable curiosity that has gotten him into trouble more than once. While on mission, nowadays he tends to be more studious and considered. The weight of command, and the loss of his adopted home Lucis V, has tempered the gung-ho attitude of his youth, and he has learnt to factor in proper protocols and the lives of others into his decision-making. However, he still carries that spark of adventure and curiosity. He likes to know the how, why, and when, of all he doesn't understand, and enjoys discovering the unknown. He would have been a scientist had it not been for his pursuit of hands-on, physical activity. He feels very connected emotionally to his family, they are his biggest and most obvious soft spot. He dotes on his young daughter and wife, and they are one of the few subjects that will cause Nyx to open-up and discuss at length. Though he is very proud of his Starfleet service, nothing brings him more joy than his family. The fact that he almost lost them still gives him nightmares. Nyx enjoys physical activity and can often be found on holodecks either running, rock climbing, fencing, or river rafting. He readily dives into any thrilling activity, free to loose. He appreciates anyone who can keep up with him. He constantly pushes himself to reach further, train harder, and achieve more from his body. |

| Personal History | === Early Childhood === Born in Copenhagen, Earth in 2353, Nycolas is the oldest child of the once-married Spencer and Brigitte Temple, and older brother to Magnus. His father was a former Medical Officer in Starfleet, while his mother was a civilian politician and United Earth leader. The brothers grew up primarily in the artisan, historic Danish capital under their mother's primary care; their father gradually becoming uninvolved in their lives. With their father absent and mother usually working, the Temple boys generally only had each other to rely upon, and they formed a close protective bond with each other that continues to this day. Sometimes, Nyx and Magnus would be sent to Betazed to stay with their grandparents. The boys enjoyed travelling across the Quadrant in starships, as well as seeing their warm, doting grandparents. Their grandmother in particular instilled upon the young boys a compassionate outlook on life and attempted basic training for their slight empathic ability. She passed when Nyx was 14 and he vowed to live up to her image. Nyx's grandfather was a retired Starfleet Admiral, and Nyx had always looked up to him. While his father had turned out to be a poor role model, his grandfather had inspired the boy with war stories of fighting the Borg and the Gorn. This instilled into the young man a dedication to stand up against tyranny and to protect the innocent, another valuable lesson that Nyx vowed to take with him into adulthood. === Starfleet Academy === When Nyx neared the end of his secondary school, he had many choices in front of him for a future career, but it was only ever Starfleet for him. After gaining acceptance into the Academy, he moved to San Francisco to begin his studies. His freshman year was spent with an undeclared major as he audited every subject he possibly could. Though he had strongly considered the Sciences, Nyx instead chose to major in Intelligence and Security, wanting the action and adventure that his grandfather had experienced. Eager to get the most out of his time at the Academy, Nyx took elective studies in many additional subjects. He also joined the Academy fencing team and competed in the annual Cadet Games. Nyx reveled in Academy life, managing to fit at several years of study and activity into just four, and he graduated in 2375. === Starfleet Security ==== Nyx was chosen to join Starfleet Security's advanced cadet course at their Field Operations Compound in San Francisco, where he shadowed experienced officers and learnt the ropes the hard way - in the field and on-mission. Though only a trainee, he enjoyed the thrill of investigating, hunting, and capturing the "bad guys". He learnt the art of tactical operations and showed an aptitude for gathering intelligence and executing missions. He graduated from the course in 2377 and joined the USS Melbourne as an Ensign Security Officer. Nyx requested and lobbied for the role as he wanted to serve on the front-line onboard of an active Starfleet vessel. The Melbourne was posted to secure the Federation's borders with the Cardassians at the tail end of the Dominion War, the service delivering plenty of experience and excitement for the young officer. It wasn't long before he was being considered as a team leader, however he would frequently show a tendency to act alone. As a result, his superiors thought he needed time to develop his teamwork. === Starfleet Intelligence === In 2379, Nyx found himself being re-posted to Starbase 15. Nyx did not like the idea of being stationed on a StarBase, though he was told it was to develop his leadership skills. However, it was here that he was approached to join Starfleet Intelligence. They had noticed his aptitude for training and tactics. Nyx immediately said yes to the offer. In S.I, he was further trained on weaponry, reconnaissance, stealth, and Intelligence operations. He was mentored by Commodore Thurston, who treated the young officer as his protege. Nyx successfully conducted multiple missions for Starfleet Intelligence. Here, he gained a reputation for his advanced study of every mission parameter, often acting as the key intel source and tactical planner. He advanced in rank to the position of Lieutenant Junior Grade. For four years, Nyx honed his skills as an Intelligence Agent. He became a deadly fighter, known for his quick hands and strategic strikes, as well as his ability to conceal himself within an environment. He gained nicknames such as the Ghost and the Grey by his fellow agents. He continued to train and learn new skills, picking up technical know-how for data gathering and manipulating computer systems. He was typically working alone, as was his preference, and known for precision and targeting the enemy with efficiency. === Lucis V === In 2383, Nyx was posted to the Federation Colony on Lucis V, part of a system of planets in between Cardassian and Ferengi space, that Starfleet were keen to secure for the Federation. Though he was posted as Chief of Security, Nyx continued to act as an Intelligence Agent and carried out multiple missions to prevent the Cardassians from gaining a foothold in the region. He also met his future wife, Emilie, on the planet, as she worked for the local government as was daughter to the city's Governor. The two quickly became romantically involved and would marry just three months into their relationship. Nyx found a new home on Lucis, the beautiful tropical garden city taking him in as a second son. However, the Cardassians were angered by the Federation's apparent intrusion into the area and a group of supposedly 'rogue' Cardassian warriors attempted to invade the city in 2384. Nyx personally led the city's defenses and held off the Cardassian group's invasion until the USS Wellington could arrive to provide support. His actions on that day would gain him the colony's gratitude, rewarding with a cultural item of clothing. He was called the Guardian of Lucis. With the support of Starfleet Intelligence, Nyx embarked on a mission to discover who was orchestrated the attack on Lucis. He followed a Cardassian commander to Gaspar and managed to elicit information that pointed to a potential culprit. However, the Cardassians were embarrassed by their defeat and with the help of a neighboring planet, launched a shock bombing attack on the city. The surprise assault was too much for the Wellington, who found themselves overwhelmed and unable to stop it. Forced to evacuate, Nyx helped to rescue as many people as possible, ensuring that Emilie was saved. Sadly, his father-in-law Governor Flueret was killed in front of them as he attempted to maintain the city's shields while others escaped. The once beautiful Lucis V was no more, and the city was decimated in 2385. === Time on Earth, Return to Service === Emilie was distraught at the loss of her father and her home. She and Nyx received some comfort however when she discovered on the transport back to Earth that she was pregnant. He returned to Starfleet and became Executive Officer of the USS Regis as Lieutenant Commander, having proven himself to be a capable leader, tactician, and most importantly a selfless protector of the innocent. Nyx and Emilie’s child, a daughter Katrine, was born nine months later, back in his first home in Denmark. Nyx had been deeply effected by his time on Lucis, and the loss of his new home, but channeled his energy into his training and his career. He was no longer splitting his time between Starfleet and S.I, choosing to focus developing his leadership skills instead. Seeking a new engagement and having proven himself as a leader, Nyx was granted captaincy of a new exploration and research vessel the USS Pandora in 2388, gaining the rank of Commander. Though her mission was primarily scientific research and diplomatic engagement, Nyx was chosen to command the vessel due to his inexhaustible will to defend others and his sound, tactical mind. Personally, Nyx jumped at the chance to explore a new region of the galaxy and discover new lifeforms and planets, wanting to get back to his old days of adventure and discovery. |
