Krysia had just finished yet another turn on the bridge, she didn’t realise having a bridge shift could feel so monotonous until now & didn’t help that she felt so tired and worn down although everyone was feeling somewhat that way at present. She smiled wearily as Lieutenant Louis stepped onto the bridge and caught up with her.

“Can I speak to you a moment Lieutenant?” Louis smiled as he looked at Krysia.

“Of course” Krysia nodded and motioned for him to follow her to her quarters, pushing the door aside they walked inside Krysia motioning for Louis to take a seat.

“I have the results of the tests I ran on you last time I was here” Louis looked at the results he had in front of him, “this is a little on the side of guesswork since we don’t have the necessary equipment available to run the full spectrum of tests we need but...” he paused for a moment, “going from what I’ve learned of Drax physiology combined with your human physiology the markers the tricorder showed me lead me to believe that... you’re pregnant.”

Krysia opened her mouth to speak before closing it again and looked quizzically at Louis, “How?” she grinned as she realised how silly that sounded, “I, of course, know how but what I mean is... we haven’t been here that long how can you be telling me I’m pregnant?”

“Like I said it’s partly guesswork, it’s normal for Drax pregnancies to show in tests a lot earlier than human pregnancies which with modern technology are detectable a lot earlier these days to back in earth’s history. You have all the protein markers & raised hormone levels as stated in the literature about your people, I can only guess it’s very early days but it’s affecting your moods hence the headaches & the dizzy spells appear to be linked to it as well.”

Krysia nodded she wasn’t sure whether to celebrate or not, “I guess in terms of getting on with our lives this is good news but I’d much rather we had the whole ship available especially sickbay”

“Don’t worry” Louis stood and moved across to her, “I’m sure we can handle delivering a baby, I’ve done it before” he smiled, “from now on try and get rest when you can, I can talk to the Captain if you want?”

“No that’s okay” Krysia smiled, “Thank you Louis, I appreciate your everything you’re doing”

“All part of my job” he smiled warmly, “We have a limited amount of medication available so I’m not going to recommend anything for your dizziness unless you really need it.”

Krysia shook her head, “I’ll be fine I’ll just try and rest when I can”

Louis nodded, “There wasn’t much on morning sickness in the literature for your people so I don’t know whether that’s normal for the Drax but I’m afraid it is for human females and as you’re half human it maybe something you’ll have to put up with I’m not sure. Any major problems call us straight away the last thing you need is to get dehydrated and malnourished it won’t do you or your baby any good.”

“Understood” Krysia nodded, “I guess I just have to tell James now” she smiled.

“I’ll leave you to get some rest” Louis smiled warmly as he headed for the door, “Oh and Lieutenant...” he paused to look back for a moment, “Congratulations!”
