Mission: Death in Paradise

A Mission Post by Lieutenant Bethany Robinson & Veronica Kiley
Mission: Death in Paradise
Location: Daycare; Recreation Deck
Timeline: ~0800, Day After the Murder

ON:

Bethany Robinson was in such a state of panic and hurry that she'd completely forgotten she could actually consult the computer to get her bearings. Instead, she was frantically darting all over the ship, trying to find her way, and she'd also forgotten where she was heading in the first place.

The petite woman had found herself in a place full of children of varying ages, and a dance class, well that was nice. She was distracted by the sight of the bright colours and the pleasant sensation, that she failed to notice the girl right in front of her and with a loud yelp, she was in a tangle of limbs with the girl, "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" said Robinson. "Are you all right?!?"

Veronica was pretty much bored with the dance lesson, which was part of the school's physical education program, and hoped she'd finally get a chance to play some soccer with her classmates. Nevertheless, any kind of exercise was pretty fun in its own way, so she didn't complain. However, suddenly, as she turned around, a blonde-haired grown-up woman crashed into her, making the girl stand there clueless for a moment, while feeling a slight pain in her forehead.

"I'm fine... I'm fine...", she looked up at the lady, who apologized for her misstep, "Probably just a little bump on my head."

"Oh, this is all my fault," said Bethany as she scrambled to get back to a kneeling position. She was only a head or so taller than the girl, "I'm so sorry."

After a moment of looking around, she asked with a hint of embarrassment, "Could you tell me where I am exactly, please? I'm still not too familiar with where everything is..."

"It's fine...", Veronica replied with a slight grin. The girl tilted her head. So, she was not the only newcomer on board, she thought. The question asked by this grown up amused her somewhat. "We're on Deck 5.", she said on an explanatory voice, proud of the fact that she is apparently smarter (in certain things) than an adult, "There's the jungle gym, the holodecks, and all the food places right over there.", she pointed to a direction, "And we're in the dance room right now. Not exactly the most exciting place, but whatever.", she shrugged.

"Got it," said Robinson, "Deck Five, hmm, now if only I can remember why I came this way...and where I was headed."

She rubbed her temples and frowned.

Veronica sized up the woman, and decided to ask an obvious question. "Are you new on board?"

"It shows, doesn't it?" said Robinson as a reply, she lifted her head away from her hand and smiled sheepishly at the girl, "And to think, I watched the actual design process of the Luna-class starships."

"Don't worry. I'm new as well.", the girl confessed, "Luna-class starships?"

"Yes, that's what the Pandora is," said Robinson, "It's a Luna-class starship."

She looked over at the girl. "You sure do look familiar...well, I'm Bethany Robinson, the new assistant chief engineer. And you are...?"

"Ah, okay.", the girl nodded. Now she knew that Luna-class starships are the most boring ones in the fleet. Thanks for the info. "I'm Veronica Kiley.", she introduced herself, looking up at the woman, "The new best soccer player on board.", she then added, "My mom is the new doctor."

Robinson smiled, "Pleasure to meet you," she said, "new best soccer player, huh? There's a team of them on board?"

"Not yet.", the girl claimed, "But I want to make a team. With me as the team captain, of course." She then thought for a moment, "Why do I look familiar?"

Peering at Veronica a little more, Robinson finally answered, "Is your mother Alexandra Alves?"

"What if she is?", Veronica asked with a mysterious smile, "What if she's not?"

The blonde Betazoid could only respond with an arched eyebrow. Why was the young lady being so mysterious? The more she looked at the girl, the more she reminded her of the doctor she just went out with the night before for what was called a 'Girl's Night Out.'

"You're being oddly vague," said Robinson, "am I wrong in my guess? Or do you just enjoy getting into nuances with a lost Starfleet officer?"

"Nu... nuaa... what?", Veronica tried to pronounce the strange word, but she gave up, "Anyways, you're guess is right.", she shrugged, "She is my mom."

"Terrific," said Robinson with a small smile, "please tell me she's coming along soon..."

The girl didn't exactly understand why the lady made this remark, but before she could answer, the dance teacher suddenly appeared, interrupting their conversation. "Excuse me," she looked at Bethany, then back to Veronica, "I believe you should be in the class, Ms. Kiley."

Robinson gave a start, not expecting anyone else to approach so suddenly, and dropped her toolbox, "Oh...sorry," said Robinson sheepishly, and she retrieved her gear, "I didn't realize I was holding her up."

She looked at the teacher, "Could you tell me how I might find my way back to the crew quarters, please? I think I got turned around from Engineering."

The teacher seized up the newcomer, then shrugged, "The lesson is soon over, anyways," she said, "just follow the corridor on the left, get the turbolift, and go to Deck 3."

"Much obliged," said Robinson and smiled at Veronica, "Well it has been interesting meeting you, Miss Kiley. I'll see you around. Good day."

With that, she was soon heading for the turbolifts, following the direction given to her.

"See you around!", Veronica waved to the strange lady, as she made her sudden exit, then turned around to face her tutor, who wasn't exactly happy with her forgetting about the lesson. With a huge sigh, she followed the woman back to dance glass, which resumed to the same boring stuff it was before.

OFF.
