Mission: The Evils Within
Location: Starbase 206
Timeline: 11 days from current

Lieutenant Brendan Dernah was in the Main Astrometrics Lab doing scans on the Inconnu Expanse's gravimetric starms. The storms encircled the expanse entirely and was mostly successful in keeping out any attempt to breach them. Though he wasn't a science officer per se, he was still an excellent analyst and therefore was able to complete the scans. With the assistance from the Astrometrics Officer, they were able to accurately plot the gravimetric storms in the immediate vicinity of the starbase.

He and Lieutenant, jg Leah Baxter were attempting to chart the storms in grid 112 when he was called into the Captain's office. "I'm sorry to have to run Leah. I'll try to be back as soon as possible," he said as he walked out of the lab. He whistled while he made his way to the captain's office. As he entered Ops, he nodded to his fellow crewmates as well as the XO.

"The 'Old Man's' upstairs waiting for you, Lieutenant," Commander Kell Reynolds said to the passing Operations Officer.

"Thank you, Commander," Brendan said as he walked up the short stairway to the CO's office. He rang the door chime and waited for Fleet Captain Julia Argent's call to enter.

"Enter, Lieutenant," came the tinny voice of the captain and Dernah entered.

"You wanted to see me, Captain?" Brendan asked softly.

"Yes, I did, Lieutenant. I have a ship that's in need of a Senior Operations Officer and I've decided on sending you. That is if you think you're up for the challenge of starship duty?" she said.

"What ship, Captain?"

"The USS Pandora. She's out in the expanse. So, this would be a chance to get back into the thick of things, as it were, and off this stuffy old starbase. I'm sure you would be an excellent officer to add to this already diverse crew. Though, there are several officers waiting to join the crew in your department who could fill your shoes if you decided not to go. And if you do, I wouldn't think any less of you."

"Well, Captain, since you put it that way, I'll be glad to join this crew," Brendan said quite happily. "So when do I leave?"

"I'm giving you 5 days to report to the ship to allow you to put your affairs here in order," Argent said with pride.

"Thank you for this opportunity, Captain Argent. I won't let you down," Dernah said before leaving without being dismissed. Whoo boi! Am I getting the chance of a lifetime or the chance to fall flat on my ass here? I guess I'll just have to find out when I get there. Brendan thought to himself then suddenly realizing he hadn't been dismissed. At that thought, he went ghost white.
