Mission: New Moon Rising
Location: Astrometrics

Shae was glad to be back in Astrometrics; she disliked Bridge shifts, especially during times of action and danger, she much preferred the dark quiet of Astrometrics where she could run her analysis in peace. So it was understandable then that once given the order to analyze the Talarian sensor logs brought back by the Marines, Shae wasted no time in retreating to where she felt most comfortable. Excusing another Science Officer from the main console, the vulpine woman checked to see if the sensor logs had been uploaded yet, pleased to find that not only had they been uploaded in the sparse minute it took for her to get to Astrometrics, but they were already on her console waiting to be analyzed. Well, time was of the essence, so she began her work without waiting for Lieutenant Smith to arrive.

Smith was enroute to his office when he got orders to work with Lt. Brennan to review sensor logs, without skipping a beat he turned around and entered the turbolift "Deck 7" Within seconds the turbolift dropped him off on Deck 7, as he made his way to astrometrics he was going over what he had briefly seen through the intelligent reports. As Smith round the corner he quickly looked around, everyone was busy. Smith looked around and spotted LT. Brennan working at one of the stations. No one seemed to pay any attention as he made his way to were she was working, he wasn't surprised that she had started without him. Smith looked down at the console standing off the her side, hoping he would not startle her, "So what so we have Lieutenant."

Shae's ears perked upat the sound of the door opening and then swiveled to follow the Lieutenant as he approached, so she was well aware of his presence long before he ever spoke. "Not much yet, I'm afraid," Shae answered with a heavy sigh of frustration. "The Talarian technology is quite... interesting, and it's taking me a while to make sense of their readings. So far I've managed to identify a portion of their flight path from the navigational logs, much of which we already knew from following their trail, but their sensor logs are still giving me some trouble. It's a wonder how they manage to survive in space with such inferior technology, but I suppose everyone has to start somewhere."

Smith nodded, "The Talarian Technology is interesting and I agree, it's amazing that they have made it this long in space. Much of their flight pass makes no since though, they seem to trying to invade the ships that patrol this sector. Also if you take into account the probes that they were using we may be able to get a better picture of their overall flight path and what they were doing."

"The probes, I think I have that here..." Shae said as though thinking aloud as she worked, pulling up more sensor data. "The Ambassador provided us with some sensor data to help us find the ship; let's see if that helps any," she offered as she added the data from the sensor probes to what she had already extrapolated.

Smith looked over the new data as it started coming in and double checked the data that he had on the probe, including its programming, "I recognize this programming, the Talarians scientists led by Sevros' son, Machwen developed a new kind of intelligence gathering beacon, I admit it's extremely crude by our standards, but it's more advanced then what I would expect for them."

Looking down Smith noticed something, "Brennan take a look at these readings, it looks like the probe malfunctioned after it picked up a distant Tzenkethi trace and began to pursue it independently, it broke free from its mooring. The drone traveled towards the Tzenkethi where it picked up their signal."

"Aye, I don't think the probe was meant to be where is was, and if the Talarians didn't realize it had moved, a reasonable assumption given the level of their technology, then their being in Tzenkethi space was not intentional," Shae concurred with the Intel Officer. "I can understand that they'd want to keep an eye on their neighbor, Starfleet does this as well, but I don't think they realized they violated Tzenkethi space; I mean look at their search path for the probe, they were clearly lost..." she continued as the realization dawned on her, a deep sadness in her tone for the Talarians lost as a result.

Smith sighed, "the loss of their crew is devastating but I understand now why their ship was attacked. The Tzenkethi don't like people violating their space. We need to get them to understand that this was an honest mistake before any more lives are lost."

"I'll continue to run analysis on the probe data to confirm our suppositions, but for now we have enough to bring this to the Captain," Shae said with determination. Lieutenant Smith was right, they had to get the Tzenkethi to see the truth or tempers would boil over into something the Pandora was not prepared to handle!

"I agree keep running those analysis, and if anything is discovered out of the ordinary let me know." Smith stepped away from the console. "Let's go and present what we have to the captain." Turning around he headed for the door hoping that they could get everything settled. Smith smiled to himself, after loosing his wife and daughter he never thought he would be happy to work again, but being on the Pandora had proved to be energizing to him.

"Yes, certainly," Shae replied, then set the computer to run several tests on the probe and ship data. She motioned for one of the other Science Officers to come monitor the computer's progress and watch for any significant results, then she turned to follow the Intel Officer to go report their findings.
