Response Preparation

Posted on Tue Jun 23rd, 2026 @ 7:39am by Ensign Zeve Navot & Ensign Raven DeVine & Lieutenant Commander Christine J'Oh & Lieutenant Liana J'Oh & Lieutenant Jarok

Mission: A New Day at Midnight
Location: Deck 6 - Medical

ON:

Raven pursed her lips as she looked at the data on the screen, her right foot tucked behind her left, gently bending back and forth. It wasn’t really her first mission; she had been part of the Pandora’s operations since they landed on Hesiod Blue many years ago. But it was her first time in a true leadership position. As Acting Chief Medical Officer, she was overseeing the execution of the Pandora’s emergency medical response to the attack on Omipro. She was feeling that little weight of dread in the pit of her stomach.

The doors opened and broke Raven’s concentration, so she turned to see XO Lieutenant Commander Christine J’Oh and Chief of Operations Lieutenant Liana J’Oh arrive. Liana was carrying a small container in her hands as she approached.

“Welcome, J’Ohs.” Raven smiled as they arrived, loving the opportunity to interact with the married officers.

“Ensign,” Christine said formally, giving a curt nod. “I take it you have reviewed the response plans?”

“Yes.” Raven straightened up a little, feeling that maybe she had been too overly friendly from the outset. She cursed herself in her head, feeling like she might have messed this up already.

Liana, always the more relaxed of the two, moved past Christine and placed the container on the desk. “Before we get into that, the J’Oh’s brought dessert. Chocolate cheesecake.”

“Ohh my favourite.” Raven exclaimed, looking at the cake with eager eyes. “That’s so thoughtful. What’s the occasion? It’s not my birthday. I had that scrubbed from every database in the Federation.”

Christine smiled at that, wondering if it was potentially true, “A pre-thank you? For taking on this role?”

“It’s part of the role.” Raven said with a shrug, “I’m actually grateful to have the opportunity, but also -“ she gave a nervous giggle, “Very glad you’ve made these plans.”

“That’s our Chris.” Liana remarked with a smirk. “Plans upon plans.”

Christine opened her mouth to protest, but she closed it gently. It was true, of course it was true. And she didn't mind who knew it. As a first time XO, she wanted to be prepared and show her crew that she was ready to act. Instead, she casually flipped her hair backwards and shrugged, "It's part of the role, right?" She joked, winking to Raven.

Raven practically melted, relieved to be having actual relaxed, friendly banter with her superiors. She had been so worried that she wouldn't have the save rapport with the new crew as she'd enjoyed with those she worked with before. But this was easing her mind.

There came a slight cough from behind them. The group turned to see the tall, broad Vulcan Intelligence Officer standing in the Med Bay now, hands folding neatly behind his back.

“I am quite fond of preparedness.” Jarok said with a nod. “Commander, Lieutenant, Ensign. Is the Captain joining us for this meeting?”

“No.” Christine said firmly, “I want us to put the plan together ourselves and we’ll present it to him. I… want us to show what we can do.”

"Logical." Jarok nodded, giving an approval half-smile in response.

“New team, first mission, lots of nerves to shake off.” Liana agreed. “And we kinda want to impress him.”

“Oh Nyx doesn’t care about that.” Raven said with a fair degree of casualness. Christine and Jarok both startled at the Captain being called by his nickname, but Liana stifled a laugh. “Ooh. Right. Not okay with the nickname?”

“I am not accustomed to speaking so informally about our Commandjng Officer.” Jarok replied, “Unless he allows it?”

“He will.” Liana shrugged, having known the Captain for years. “He usually wants you to say it first, to break the ice. He hates formality.”

“Boy do I have some stories.” Raven remarked with a raised eyebrow. “There was this party in Mindo’s bar once -“

“Perhaps we should focus on the plan?” Christine interrupted quickly.

"Indeed." Jarok added immediately; it was clear they had their limits to the informality.

Christine moved over to the wall view screen and tapped at the buttons, fingers gliding over the console with ease. It brought up a digital display of the planet, then honed into the colony. "Once we arrive, Security teams will sweep the area and lock it down." Jarok nodded at this, "Then we'll beam down our Medical team, lead by Raven."

"I will triage depending on urgency and start beaming up critical cases to the Pandora." Raven supplied.

"I will handle the transport organisation," Liana said firmly, "We'll have both craft and beaming going at once, it'll be a juggling act but we can handle it."

"Security will begin forensic analysis of the attack site, see what we can find about the attackers." Jarok said, tapping at his PADD as it showed the roster of his own team, "They'll spread out and look for patterns in groups. We have a rough estimate of where the attackers targeted, but we won't know their full movements until we're on the ground."

"The Pandora will maintain protection of the colony in orbit." Christine said, "And we will attempt to trace their warp signatures through the Nebula. It'll be hard but given the nature of the attack, we're hoping they were sloppy with their escape and left us some breadcrumbs."

The group watched the display for a moment, seeing this little planet in this big expanse, rotating silently in its digital form.

"What then?" Raven asked quietly. "Do we go after them?"

"That's not our mission parameters." Christine answered solemnly. "We're there to secure the colony, help the injured, and find any information that we can. It'll be up to the Captain and Starfleet to decide how we proceed."

"I'd like to go after the bastards." Liana admitted, earning a stern look from Christine. "But" She added quickly, "I know that's not our role. We're not Starfleet police."

"Our best weapon is our ability to deduce who is responsible and where they are hiding." Jarok raised his eyebrow as he spoke, "Not to seek justice on our own."

"Is that understood?" Christine asked the room.

All of the officers nodded silently in agreement.

"Good." She allowed herself to smile. "We're a few hours out from Omipro. Let's get ready and I'll tell the Captain we've got a plan."

"Aye." Everyone added.

As the team moved out, Raven returned to her work. She couldn't admit that she was nervous still, but she was grateful that the senior team had a clear focus and the confidence to pull it off.
