Emilie paused a little before going into Sickbay. Even with the lights back on and apparitions long behind them, she still felt a bout of nervous panic walking down these corridors by herself. It was also made worse by the unsettling nausea in her stomach; she was still feeling the effects of motion sickness after losing inertial dampners during the Dark Matter.
Taking a long deep breath she entered Sickbay with a forced smile on her face. At least this would be her final check up with the Doctor, now that her wounds had been healed and broken bone regenerated. She was glad to being seeing less of the Sickbay, despite how grateful she was to Machwen for all that he had done to help her.
Emilie found Doctor Adaestron in his office and politely knocked on the doorframe.
"Good morning," She called out softly.
Machwen looked up from his computer when he heard Emilie, "Good morning, how are you feeling today?" he asked.
"Better," Emilie replied with a small sigh, "I want to thank you for being so attentive during my recovery, I'm sure you had your hands full with all the turbulence."
"That's no problem," Machwen told Emilie, before standing up, "shall we get you done and out of here then? I'm sure you can't wait for all of this to be behind you,"
"Yes please," Emilie said a little too eagerly. "I'm sure Nyx... uh, the Captain, would like to have you for dinner sometime to thank you himself. He likes to have his dinners does my darling husband."
Machwen smiled, "I'd be happy to accept that. I must also have the two of you over for dinner, too."
Emilie smiled as she eased herself onto the bio bed. "I'm just trying to get him to cut out the fatty foods and lavish dinners. It might be good for morale but it's not so good for his waistline, if you know what I mean, Doctor."
"Would you like me to prescribe a diet for him?" Machwen asked, semi-jokingly, whilst beginning his scane of Emilie.
"Subtly." Emilie replied with a smile. "He won't like being told the news, we just have to guide him there. I've already had Ignatius from the Men's store point it out to him."
The spouse of a Captain was by no means an easier role. Emilie found that not only did she have to share the struggles and stress of leading the ship, but also managing Nyx as well. She had to make sure he was looking after himself, even if that meant roping in some assistance.
With a shrug, she turned to the Doctor, "So, I'm ready for my clean bill of health."
"It looks like it, Mrs Temple. You and the baby are doing just fine," Machwen replied, nodding slightly.
"Oh Katrine? Yes, she's marvellously resilient." Emilie flippantly laughed, "Though she's a little old to be called a baby now, Doctor."
Machwen gave Emilie a slightly quizzical look, "I'm not talking about Katrine, Mrs Temple," he told her
"My husband?" Emilie laughed again, "I wouldn't want him to hear you calling him that. Although he does like to be awfully familiar with the crew." She frowned, "Still, I think he's doing fine as well."
Machwen realised what Emilie was talking about, "Mrs Temple, do you not realise to whom I'm referring to?" he asked.
"Yes you said me and my... my... my..." Emilie trailed off as she looked down to her stomach. She sat bolt upright. "Baby?!"
"Yes, Mrs Temple, you're pregnant," Machwen informed Emilie
With the confirmation, Emilie sat back down again, "But I didn't even know. I've only been on the ship, well, yes I guess it's been several weeks now." She sighed then burst into a smile. "I'm really pregnant?"
"Congratulations," Machwen responded, a small smile appearing on his normally straight face, "Katrine is going to have a little brother or sister,"
"Wow." Was all Emilie could muster, her face just a picture of joy and amazement, "I guess the motion sickness was really morning sickness. But what about the fall I took during the dark matter? I know the baby would only be small but could I have harmed him or her?"
"It should be fine," Machwen told Emilie, "for lack of better phrasing, at this point your child isn't developed or large enough for it to have done any damage. I assume you'll want to tell Captain Temple yourself?"
Emilie nodded thankfully. It's uncanny how immediately her mindset changed from being concerned about herself to everything being about the baby. In her mind she was already trying to contemplate changing her life, her nutrition, her schedules, her work, to accommodate the life now growing inside of her. Sure she'd done it all before, but that didn't make it easier.
"Oh." Emilie remarked as she realized what the Doctor had said. "Yes, of course. But now is such a busy time, with this planet and those pirates. I don't want to distract him. Please, Doctor, let's keep this between us until I can find a better time to tell him?"
"Of course, Mrs Temple," Machwen said, before picking up his PaDD, "I will have to book an appointment for you, though, to have routine tests. It's your choice if you want to have Captain Temple there with you."
"Sounds good," Emilie smiled, "I will try to find time before the appointment to tell him."
Kicking her feet off the biobed, Emilie turned herself around and stood up. But she had to take a little moment to steady herself after feeling a sudden head rush and nausea. "Oh, wow. I didn't miss that feeling. Is there anything I can do for the morning sickness?"
Machwen tapped some buttons on his PaDD, and looked back up at Emilie, "I've just given you a prescription for some medicine, just go to a replicator when you feel like you need it," he told her
"Thank you, Doctor," She smiled politely, "Once again, you've been an angel."
