Mission: New Moon Rising
Location: Deck 6 - Medical

It was still rather early in Luna time and Nyx returned to the Medical Deck upon hearing of the arrival of the ship's new Chief Medical Officer, Lieutenant Van Kolbeck. There was a particular spring in Temple's step as he disembarked from the turbolift, having read of Kolbeck's Norwegian heritage - making him a man from Nyx's own part of the world. His Scandinavian neighbour from across the sea. Of course, he didn't know how strongly the Doctor would identify with his European heritage, as certainly Nyx himself had lost most of his own Danish accent and only occasionally dropped a few words of his own language into conversation. Still, he was excited to have someone to watch Eurovision with now.

The Medical deck was brighter than it had been yesterday, as the lights were on for Lieutenant Kolbeck's arrival, and Nyx turned right into the main sickbay to give his greetings.

"God morgen!" He called out.

It was a few moments after Kolbeck's arrival on board the Pandora that he had heard the Main Sickbay doors open. He had just set down his backpack with items inside the Doctor’s main office. The Sickbay was more than impressive; it was something that he had not encountered before within Star Fleet. The design and new amenities proved to be an extensive upgrade, as the Luna Class vessel retrofit was immaculate.

A slight smirk formed on the side of his face. Van stood from his seat to greet who he was sure the Pandora’s Captain. There was only one Man other than his self after having read the Pandora’s crew bios could greet him such a fashion.

The voice sounded like a leader and heralded good kinship, a trait for Scandinavian leaders. Van was biased in this thought of course.

“Hej min bror!” Van stepped out of his office to greet the Captain with boisterous nature and slight smile to match. He saluted showing respect to the Man.

"Hej, hej, don't worry about saluting, min vän." Nyx replied, instead offering his hand warmly to shake the Doctors. "Still a small universe, right?"

“The more things change, the more they stay the same,” Van replied. He shook the offered hand of the Captains securely.

Just the mere presence of another Nordic native had seen Nyx's own accent suddenly return in full force, as if he'd never left the busy streets of Copenhagen.

"How are you finding the new set up here?" Nyx asked with a smile, turning to look around the sickbay.

”Jeg er overvældet,” he replied. Van glanced at the large impressive Medical Bay. Kolbeck expressed how overwhelmed he felt yet he was proud and excited to work there. He had served on Galaxy Class vessels in the past with large impressive staffs yet resources that lacked at times. Just one of the many perks of serving onboard a newly retrofitted vessel such as the Pandora. All the latest technology was expedited and outfitted. ”I feel honored to serve.” Kolbeck offered a nod.

"Vidunderlig," Temple replied, "It's great to hear you're so excited to be here."

”What may I get you to drink?” He gestured for his new Captain to have a seat and join him for a ceremonial drink.

Nyx laughed, "I have to stop visiting people in their offices and quarters, I'm going to be drunk for most of my shifts." He peered at the replicator and smiled some more, knowing it would be rude to refuse such an offer. "Perhaps just a glass of akvavit? Watered down."

Kolbeck made the drink order; the replicator materialized two medium glass tumblers. The Mans large Norwegian hands gripped the drinks and set them down on the medical desktop.

Nyx reached for the glass and raised it in a toast to the Doctor. "Skål."

"Skål." Van raised his glass in kind. He took a drink feeling the burn down his throat slowly.

”I have read and seen through the Federation News Service your contributions at Lucis Colony.” As a Human being and Doctor Van understood the deep despair of the colonists who had died. It would be terrible to see peaceful colonists taken to task by the Cardassians. The politics were something Van didn’t understand, nor wanted too.

The Captain sipped the spiced beverage and savoured it for a moment in his mouth, giving an appreciative smile. He had to consider his response to Kolbeck's mention of Lucis, still a tender subject to him.

"Glad to see you're doing your homework, Doctor," He replied "I wish I could have saved Lucis, it was a beautiful place really." He could only shrug, "We all good through our trials and tribulations, I suppose."

Van sensed the shift in energy between the conversation when he addressed the Captain with the Lucis Colony. He sensed that this was a sore subject for the Captain, at least for the time being. While he had felt they were brothers from the same fabric; he still was a stranger and the Captain. Van was someone always open. Often he was told that if he were not a Doctor, he would have been confused for being a Counselor.

“I am looking forward to a little fly fishing on the holodeck. I understand the Pandoras recreation deck has programs available.” He smiled. “What sports indulge you?” Van sniffed the tumbler. The typical Federation replicator lacked certain third senses to the synthahol.

"Ah fishing sounds good, a nice way to relax." Nyx nodded thoughtfully, "You'll probably find some suitable programs in the holodeck computer, or even create your own if you'd like. As for sports, I like a little bit of a thrill. White river rafting, rock climbing, vehicle racing. Something that gets the adrenaline pumping."

He gave a smile and took another swig of his drink, glad that he asked for it to be watered down.

Van was not surprised that Captain Temple was involved in adrenaline inducing sports. He had never been white water rafting or vehicle racing before. He was aware of Earth’s rather long history of ancient motor sporting, but it seemed rare and far between meeting someone involved.

“Combustion block engineering!” He exclaimed. “Fascinating.”

"Well it's good to have a man from home, or at least near abouts, on board." The Captain smiled, "If you haven't already met the rest of the senior crew, we're having a social gathering on the Recreation deck tonight. You'll get to see the facilities before everyone else arrives, and meet your ship mates."

Kolbeck swished the last of his glass of akvavit down. He nodded back at Captain Temple. The introduction and short meeting with him was welcomed and appreciated. Kolbeck stood up from his seat seeing as the Captain was winding down the meet. He was certain the Captain was busy as was Kolbeck. It was a welcome respite before the onslaught of business.

"I look forward to meeting the rest of the crew, yes." He nodded. Reaching his large hand forward and accepting a handshake from the Captain.

Temple received the man's vigorous shake with a smile, "Very nice to meet you, Doctor Kolbeck. I'll see you later tonight."

"Farvel min ven." Kolbeck nodded.

"Vi ses, min vän," Nyx replied with a friendly wave.
