Krysia had finished her reports and as promised to Owen she was taking some time to relax, not having visited the Luna Eclipse before she’d decided to go there and soak up the atmosphere for a little while. Ordering a drink she was sitting looking out of the window admiring the stars when a sensation of someone standing behind her made her turn around.
Smith had just come off duty and decided to have a little quiet time he headed to the Luna Eclipse for a drink and a little solitude. Upon entering he noticed his normal table was empty, grabbing his drink he looked around a bit. Smith stopped looking around as he turned a little white. Over by the windows was his wife. Shaking his head Smith tried to clear his mind. He knew it couldn’t be her after all she was dead, however, Smith couldn’t help but approach the Lieutenant, as he approached her he stopped and hesitated a bit, and was about to retreat when she turned around.
“Can I help you?” Krysia smiled politely, she knew she hadn’t met this member of the crew before yet she felt as though he thought he knew her.
Smiling just a bit Smith said, “It’s nothing Lieutenant, sorry to have bothered you.”
“Wait... please” Krysia smiled as she motioned to a seat, “you obviously came over here for a reason, I’m no counsellor but they say talking to a stranger sometimes helps. I got a strong sense that you felt you knew me, for a moment it almost felt like I knew you” she grinned, “the downside of being an empath you easily get drawn into others emotions.”
Krysia didn’t need her empathic senses to tell the man in front of her was suffering in silence, whatever had happened to him he was certainly holding onto it and as a stranger it wasn’t her place to pry. Right now all she could do was offer friendship.
“I’m Krysia by the way... Chief Ops of this huge floating starship.”
Setting his drink down Smith had a seat and said, “I’m James, Chief of Intelligence.” Smith looked at her it was almost as if she could look deep into his soul. As an Intelligence officer he had spent years training his mind to hide even his deepest and darkest thoughts, by her soft expression he felt like she understood him. Smith looked up and said “I really didn’t mean to startle you. You reminded me of someone I knew from my past.”
Picking up his drink he took a sip and continued. “You reminded me of my wife, when I saw you I thought I was seeing a ghost. My Wife and daughter died in a Ravager attack on DS7, I have always felt responsible for their death. My wife was a marine and fought til her last breath. I almost resigned my commission, however, the doctors told me to take a vacation. When I found out my old friend had his own ship I arranged to be stationed here.
Krysia couldn’t help but feel sorry for James, “I’m so sorry, I can’t imagine what it must be like to loose not just your wife but daughter as well.” She paused for a moment to sip her drink, “It must feel like you’re talking some doppelgänger of your wife.”
Smith smiled, but with a somewhat sad tone he said, “ She was a remarkable woman, always looking for the next adventure. Then when my daughter was born a whole new adventure started. I was so pleased that my daughter had been accepted into Star Fleet Acadamy. She was interested in following in my footsteps and get into the intelligence field. So when I saw you it was like I was seeing her all over again.”
“To be honest..” she stopped to think how to word what she wanted to say, “when I saw you I felt like I knew you even though we’ve never met before, maybe it was a brief mental link when you let your guard down for that second when you saw me I’m not really sure.” she looked at James curiously, “you’re doing a good job of blocking me now, I can barely read you not that it matters.” She paused and sipped her drink again.
“If you ever need a friendly chat or just some company I’m always around” Krysia smiled warmly she couldn’t help but find herself attracted to James even though they’d only just met. “I unfortunately am going to have to get going or I’ll never be on time for my next shift” she smiled apologetically, “would you... care to walk and talk?”
Smiling James looked back at his drink and stood up. “I would like that.” Smith began to think to himself that Nyx would definitely be happy about this. He had been trying to get him out of his slump.
Getting up from her seat Krysia returned her empty glass and waited for Smith to join her, “I don’t normally make a habit of meeting men and asking them to walk me back to my quarters ” she grinned as they stepped into the turbolift, “I’m curious about this... sense I have of you.” Stepping out of the turbolift Krysia walked to her quarters, “would you like to come in?”
Smith was a little surprised but he smiled, “ I would love too. It would allow us to get to know each other better, and I feel so much better when I talk to you and I feel comfortable.”
Walking inside Krysia motioned for James to take a seat, "make yourself at home" she smiled warmly as she made her way over to the sofa and sat down.
-- A couple of hours later --
Krysia laughed, looking up she couldn't believe the time they'd been talking for ages, looking at James she smiled warmly. "It's getting late, I guess I'd best let you get back."
Smith nodded as he got up he did had some reports that he needed to get done and the info from the Carnage computer core was still waiting for him. But something was holding him back as he looked back at her and said, “I had a good time tonight, I feel like I was able really open up to you.”
"James..." she couldn't help but stop him, "do you have to go?" she gently reached out her hand to touch his face, "I don't know what it is about this connection we have but I don't want you to go, please stay with me tonight?"
Smith smiled it had had been sometime since he had thought about being with anyone, but this strange feeling he was having about her he couldn’t shake. He actually didn’t want to leave. Looking at her as she grabbed him by the hand he said, “Krysia I’d like to stay here with you.”
Taking his hand she led him to where she wanted him to go the bedroom door swishing closed behind them.
— Sometime later —
Krysia lay with her head on James’ shoulder her arm draped across his chest, she hadn’t for a moment thought this was going to happen yet here she was in bed with a man she’d only just met. She moved her arm just long enough to swish her damp hair out of the way then put it back across his chest, it felt good to be this close to someone. She closed her eyes quite contented at being wrapped in James’ arms.
James laid their deep in thought he never thought he would ever have feelings for anyone else, but the time he had spent with Krysia was amazing. She was someone who for some reason he felt a strong connection to and it felt good. Maybe things were about to look up, still James thought about those he lost and would do what ever he could not to have a repeat of the past. Closing his eyes he enjoyed the moment of them being their together.
