With the department transfers now complete, Nyx wanted to meet with the new medical team to discuss the crew's on-going needs and their recovery from the Bubble. It was important to him as Captain to keep himself involved with the operation of Deck 6; not only to help them transition from their previous roles, but so that the medical needs of the Pandora were given the importance they required. He also had a little surprise for the team, and he waited in the Sickbay's main conference room with two large crates on the floor next to him.
Dr. Eiri Ashshy was not late. Ever. He was too Vulcan to be late. He had spent the morning trying to get everything in the office, now his office, for the time being, under control. It was funny how he was taught all these mental organizing skills, but the physical organizing was a little harder, but he had put all of that aside for the meeting with the captain. He stepped into the conference room and nodded briskly to Captain Temple. "Good afternoon, Captain," the small, silver-haired Vulcan stated.
Aeryn and Krysia arrived together having spent the last hour together assisting each other to move offices, plus Krysia needed to get up-to-date on where Aeryn was with the ship's Counselling appointments. They both politely smiled and nodded to Eiri as they entered before looking at each other. Krysia eventually speaking for both of them, "We're reporting as ordered, Captain." She smiled politely.
“Thank you all for coming so quickly,” Nyx began with a smile. “How are we going with the transitions to your new roles?”
Krysia smiled as she looked at Nyx. “Fine, thank you, Captain. Aeryn has been updating me on the current progress of those currently under Counselling review and I’ll be going over the crew evaluations to catch up.” She looked at Aeryn and smiled.
Aeryn returned Krysia’s smile before looking to Nyx. “I must admit it’s going to seem strange being the Assistant Chief Medical Officer, but I’m looking forward to the change, Sir.”
“Good to hear,” Nyx replied with a nod. “I know you’ll both take some time to get comfortable, but I want you to view your departments with a critical eye. This is our opportunity to review our operations and practices and change whatever we need to.”
“Yes, Sir,” both Aeryn and Krysia answered within moments of each other. The result of which sounded like an echo, which made them both grin. Krysia had to admit it felt good to feel happiness again after everything that had gone on in the bubble.
Eiri nodded, with a PaDD already in hand, that he offered to Nyx. "I have been reviewing the medical supplies on the ship. There is a list of things that we are sorely lacking. I wanted you to see it, before I started replicating. I have also started crew evaluations. I have not found a problem with any of my staff, yet, but I will let you know and I will have the completed evaluations on your desk in two days," the diminutive doctor said said in his standard Vulcan tone.
"On another matter," Eiri continued. "I have served as Counselor before, on other ships. I would like to offer my advice and experience to Lieutenant Kaleri, should it be needed."
Nyx looked at the PADD with a raised eyebrow. “We used a lot of supplies during the wave crisis, it appears. Thank you, Doctor, please use the ship’s resources to get whatever you need. I’m expecting a small shipment from the Palatine to help keep us going.”
He turned to Kaleri, “Please lean on Doctor Ashshy for help with administration of the department. It’s quite different from Operations; you won’t have the large team to manage but you will need to craft your own agenda to deal with the crew’s mental health needs.”
"Yes, Sir." Krysia nodded and smiled, as she turned to look at Eiri. "Any help will be gratefully received, Doctor." She turned back to Nyx. "I have already gone over the schedule that Lieutenant Jameson had already planned before the change about, Sir, but it'll obviously need some rearrangement to fit in those that need to see me about our recent time in the bubble."
"Ensign Rochester and First Lieutenant Arnaldo in particular are the higher priorities." Nyx nodded, looking to his PADD. "Rochester requires an assessment of his suitability for potential transfers. He'll be disembarking once we reach Carnwennan station and Starfleet want to know where he could possibly go. His future is in doubt right now." Nyx leaned back in his chair, "As for Arnaldo, he's been voluntarily bunking in the Brig which has helped to calm him down. But we need a long term solution for his mental health. I'd hate to see either of these officers, who still have so much potential, be permanently damaged by the events of the Bubble."
"Yes, Sir." Krysia nodded. "I'll make them both a matter of priority."
"Thank you." Nyx smiled. "Alright, any other business?"
Eiri shook his head. "Not from me. As I said, I will perform crew reviews immedately. I would like to look at First Lieutenant Arnaldo. I believe additional scans could be necessary, to make sure that the damage to his brain is not progressing. I know that he has voluntarily confined himself to the Brig, so how do you wish me to proceed? Should I simply request his presence in sickbay? Or should I request that he be brought to me by security?" Eiri asked, unsure of what the conditions of his confinement were.
"From my reports, he can leave the Brig during the day without incident now," Nyx answered. "It's mostly at night and mornings when the problems threaten to occur if he's not sleeping there. I'd go to see him in the Brig, maybe with Kaleri, to assess his current mood. If he's not agitated, I'd encourage him to follow you both to the Sickbay."
Eiri nodded. "Very well, Captain." Eiri was immedately concerned. If Arnaldo was showing signs only in the mornings and evenings it could mean serious or permanent damage. Many patients with brain injuries and brain disease experienced these symptoms at these times of day. It was often referred to as Sundowning, by humans, even though it happened in the mornings as well. Patients often reported disorientation during these times periods, as well as memory loss of the events later on when they are more lucid. It really only happened to people who had permanent damage, but Eiri didn't want to jump the gun, incase that wasn't what was going on.
"It could also just be that Lieutenant Arnaldo is experiencing severe nightmares after everything that took place in the bubble, as far as his memory goes he was killed during our time there I can only imagine how the reality of dying then waking up alive again must have affected his mind and his sense of reality. It was hard enough for the rest of us..." She looked at Nyx then at Eiri. "We'll start with your medical assessment Doctor then we'll see where we go from there."
“Let’s hope we’re talking something fixable,” Nyx added. He clapped his hands together, “Thank you for this meeting everyone, and thank you for taking up the challenge of running our Medical department. I know this has been a sudden change but I appreciate your enthusiasm for the transition and putting the Pandora first.”
Krysia looked at Aeryn and Eiri, then at Nyx. "So what's hiding in the crates Captain?" She looked at Nyx curiously.
“Uniforms!” Nyx exclaimed happily. He jumped up and opened the boxes. “When we first launched the Pandora we were given the standard teal uniforms for both Sciences and Medical. When I processed the crew changes, I also requested we adopt the nobility of the Medical blue. From now on you’ll be identifiable as your own separate field.”
Krysia smiled as she looked at the uniforms. "Very nice. Hope they've sent in maternity sizes as well." She grinned.
"I've no doubt they thought of that." Aeryn smiled as she looked at Krysia. "This is going to be fun!"
Eiri nodded. "Thank you, Captain," he bowed a little to Nyx and turned for the door.
“Please contact me if you need anything,” Nyx said as the team left the room.
