Ensign Vecon Fick thought that Lieutenant K'Laus was probably feeling pretty embarrassed. He knew what it was like to have a night, that when you woke up, you definitely knew that apologies were in order. FIck had been born and raised on Risa, after all. He'd given the Klingon plenty of time to sober up, as well as some time to reflect on what had happened. Fick didn't want to just run to the brig and declare his undying love for the Klingon when what he had done had definitely been uncalled for, but he had to do something, hopefully, to put the Klingon's mind at ease that he hadn't totally ruined everything.

Fick really wasn't exactly sure what the Klingon's thought process had been when he attacked Lieutenant Mindo, after Mindo had left Fick's own quarters, but he felt like he could fair a good guess. Especially after he heard through the grapevine that Lieutenant K'Laus had been yelling at Mindo about Fick's honor. He was pretty sure that was going to turn into some sort of bad joke that would used to tease him forever, but he didn't mind much, it was pretty funny. All that mattered to Fick was, that in his drunken state, K'Laus had undoubtedly made it very clear that Fick meant a lot more to him then Fick had suspected he did.

He was a little embarrassed about the ruckus the Klingon had caused as well and he was also concerned that K'Laus was currently confined to his quarters over that little incident, but to Fick it was also very flattering that the Klingon was so willing to jump to defend him, even if his defense wasn't really necessary. It also indicated to Fick that perhaps there might be some jealousy involved, but he wasn't sure how many times K'Laus had seen Mindo exit his quarters and all of those suspected feelings were pure speculation on Fick's part.

It was also not unwanted attention, although the method was unconventional, to say the least. Fick was definitely interested in the Klingon and if he was totally honest with himself he would also admit that he'd purposefully been "after" K'Laus since he met him in the cargo bay. Very few Klingons came to Risa and when they did, usually, only the females were interested in males. Granted, he had taken advantage of that once, but he had always been attracted to the strength and aggression of the males, but he had also never wanted to get killed by one for hitting on him. For some reason in the cargo bay that day, he had felt sure enough and safe enough to flirt with K'Laus.

He pulled on civilian clothing, a pair of black pants, a simple, loose shirt and his favorite vest. He checked himself in the mirror to make sure he was still cute and headed out of his quarters. He was grinning when he reached The Box and ordered a large portion of Rach as well as a nice sized piece of something the humans called Pumpkin Pie. When the food was ready and packaged up for him to carry, he took it and made his way to the Lieutenant's quarters. Fortunately, when he reached the room, the security officer on duty let him in. "Hey! How's your head?"

Oh Targ teats! thought the Klingon as he was unexpectedly visited by the last person he wanted to see. "Pounding," replied the man in the holding cell. "Terribly pounding. Excuse my Klingon, but nuqneH?!" asked the Klingon. It was a rather strong inquiry that basically loosely translated to 'What do you want combined with why do you disturb me?' to which he was looking at Fick for an answer. "You should not be here, Fick. You should be elsewhere far far far away from the likes of me if you want what's good for you and your career."

"Bossypants. You're not my mother. I think I can determine what's good for me and my career. Besides, I brought you some raktajino and Racht." Fick grinned broadly and held up the thermos and the bag from the restaurant so the Klingon could see. "I'm not mad at you, you know... actually I'm kinda flattered." He was still grinning. Fick took the bag to the table and set it down and then offered the cup of raktajino to K'Laus with a little grin.

K'Laus took the cup and nodded in appreciation.

The Klingon did appreciate the company. Bearing food and beverage was of course a way to start to win over a testy Klingon. “Well, I believe there is an Earth saying that flattery will get you everywhere,” he said approaching Fick.

K’Laus grunted. “Though I doubt they had the Brig in mind,” he added. “I got myself into a lot of trouble, Fick. The Captain was not too thrilled to see me locked up in here like a savage animal, but I belong here. What I did to Mindo... there are no words to right that wrong.”

Fick leaned pulled out one of the chairs at the table and sat down. "Well, no... you can't really take it back, but you can say you're sorry. The Captain suggested that you volunteer for anger management counseling. He said it would be better if you volunteered then if he ordered you to do it. Please go. They don't want to keep you locked up either." He looked at K'Laus pleadingly. "Please... I just... I dunno... I want you out of this so we can start over. I wouldn't have had Mindo in my quarters if... well if I had known..." He sort of trailed off. He could feel the heat in his cheeks and knew he was blushing. He took a deep breath to steady himself. "I really like you. I really wanted you to like me. I just hope all this hasn't made you change your mind."

Fick nudged the bag of food on the table with one hand, pushing it towards K'Laus. "You better sit down and eat that while it's still moving."

The Klingon looked at Fick and blushed. The way to a warrior's heart, thought K'Laus as he looked at the plate full of wiggling food. I do not know how to tell these people that though I like Klingon food, I would be delighted if they opened their minds a bit more. I eat more than Klingon food, thought Lieutenant K'Laus as he contemplated eating the food. "I will attend the anger management counselling and I will eat the food," he replied agreeingly, taking the plate of food.

"And no, I have not changed my mind," he said firmly. "You are perhaps the most irritating person I have ever met in my entire life. Yet, I have found myself finding your irritation soothing to the soul. I would like you to irritate me more," added the Klingon with a smirk. "Assuming I am still allowed on this starship," he added.

Fick thought for a moment that he might pass out with relief. It sort of washed over him, beating the color to his cheeks and quickly spreading up to even make his ears red. "Oh thank gods. I was worried you were gonna say no and get pissed off." He chuckled, looking relieved. "So... I'm really flattered that you find me..." He furrowed his eyebrows for just a moment, more in amusement than anything else. "... annoying... I'm glad it's a good annoying. I mean I get good annoying. I'd like to keep annoying you too. Although I can definitely think of better ways to annoy you." He smirked a little and then started to chew his bottom lip, looking directly at K'Laus. "Wow, so this has all been totally messed up. Is this how Talarians flirt with people?" He tipped his head to one side and grinned. He couldn't seem to stop grinning.

K'Laus snorted and shook his head. "You would not want me to flirt with you the way Talarians do. There really is not much flirting to their relationships, it Is very 'antiquated' I dare say," he replied. "Think of Talarian courting as claiming whatever property you find most appealing and marking them as yours. Women are subservient to their man and will obey them no matter what or face punishment. In Talarian culture the 'mating' between two males is not necessarily forbidden, but it serves little purpose outside of pleasure. There is a need to breed," he explained. "If I were to have courted you in a Talarian sense, Mindo would have been slaughtered and brought to you as proof that I was far superior mating stock."

Fick raised his eyebrows. He had to admit that he didn't know that much about Talarians. He felt kind of stupid for treating K'Laus as a Klingon. He chuckled a little at the story. "I dunno. Some of that doesn't sound too bad," he joked suggestively. "As it was I was pretty impressed with your proof... and no one had to die." He grinned. "My people are pretty loose about their relationship definitions. It's pretty much all allowable and encouraged as long as everyone gives consent and no one's getting hurt... of course some people like to be hurt a little." He smirked at K'Laus. "But just because we're like that doesn't mean we don't value a mate or a monogamous relationship. We also don't separate our sexes. Men and women are equal, both with a right not to be abused." He shrugged a little. "It's just how the world is... filled with differences." He chuckled and smiled warmly at K'Laus. "So what happens next?"

"We wait and see," replied K'Laus. "I need to see how this all goes and if it blows over. I do not know if I will still be wearing this uniform or on this starship for much longer... if on any Federation starship," he said shaking his head. "I do not want to have to put you into a relationship where we barely would see one another, Fick... that just would not be fair to you at all."

"Maybe not... but I'm not willing to just throw in the towel because things got messy. Look, I had a long talk with the Captain and he really got me thinking about some things." He reached out to attempt to take K'Laus' hand, but hesitated, unsure. He looked up at the Klingon. "I've never really wanted anything. I mean sure I wanted stuff... like being here... but relationship wise... not so much and I know this is probably going to sound stupid, but I want this. If I hadn't wanted this I wouldn't have given you so much trouble for so long... and if I hadn't wanted this... I wouldn't be here right now." He snorted. "I just started this Starfleet thing. Hell, I'm still an Ensign. I mean sure I asked to be here and worked for it, but career isn't everything, but people you care about... that is everything."

Lieutenant K'Laus looked into Fick's eyes. They were rich and full of wonder, full of sincerity, and so full of care. He squeezed Fick's hand trying to reassure him that it was alright. I am not going to growl, snarl, or bite you... not right now anyways, thought K'Laus with a bit of a smirk though he composed himself rather quickly. "I did not know what I wanted until I began wanting you. I began wanting you before I realized it and then it just felt like it was too late and that I was losing you to other potential mates like Mindo," explained K'Laus. "People are important. Both my culture's have taught me that. Family and friends are essential in both Talarian and Klingon cultures," stated K'Laus. "So, that means that you are important to me," he added.

Fick pulled the Klingon's hand to his face and rubbed his cheek against it before kissing the back of his hand, closing his eyes for a moment and taking a deep breath. "Mindo was never a threat to you," he said softly. "We just both come from planets where people are a little more relaxed about sex. It made sense, at the time." He squeezed K'Laus' hand in return and then set their joined hands back on the table. "We'll figure this out together. No matter what. You hear me?" He was looking at the Klingon intently again. "No matter what. I'm not going to find you and connect with you just to lose you again," he shook his head as he talked. "So if they kick you off this ship, I'm off too. Got it?"

Fick got up from his seat and went around to where K'Laus was sitting. He stood there a moment and then forced his way into the Klingon's lap. "You're not eating your food... and some of it is trying to get away," he said softly, smoothing some of the hairs at the edge of K'Laus' beard. "Am I going to have to force feed you?"
