Krysia made her way to main engineering to once again make the acquaintance of the ship’s Chief Engineer Lieutenant Mindo, after their first brief meeting on the bridge she’d made a point of learning what she could about him as she did everyone it saved awkward silences when trying to make conversation. As the doors swished open she stopped and looked around seeing him amongst a crowd of others she made her way over and waited for a moment to introduce herself again.

“Lieutenant Mindo” she smiled warmly, ”nice to see you again."

Mindo looked up and saw the nice-looking Lieutenant and gave a warm smile. Hovering up to her face level, he put out a hand. "It's nice to meet you again, Lieutenant. How do you like your new ship?"

Krysia smiled, "She's a beauty" she grinned "I've served aboard a Luna class before so I know my way around and so far everyone I've met has been very welcoming. Being in Ops has me working with engineering on a regular basis so I thought I'd come down & introduce myself instead of just landing on you one day!"

"I appreciate that," said Mindo. "Listen, I'm on break in about five minutes and I'm starving. Have you been to Pandora's Box yet?"

"Actually no I haven't, I made my first priority getting settled in before introducing myself. I don't like for people to have to guess who I am." She grinned, "I haven't really had time to sit down and eat yet."

"Then you must be hungry!" said Mindo. "The Box has just about every kind of food you could imagine. Let me finish up here and then we can go."

"Deal" Krysia smiled warmly as she stood aside for a moment & waited for Mindo to finish what he had to do.

In five minutes, they were in a booth at Pandora's Box looking over the menu.

"What kind of food do you like?" Mindo asked.

"Let's just say I'm a meat eater" she smiled, "unlike a lot of my people who prefer the non meat option. I don't mind what it is really I'll give things a try."

"I'm an omnivore," said Mindo. "So I'll eat just about anything. If meat is your thing, I highly recommend the Klingon targ steak. Cooked or rare, doesn't matter. It's very tasty!" Mindo looked down at the menu and ordered an obscure Earth delicacy called a "Philly Cheese Steak" sandwich. "I heard one of my human engineers rave about this and have been meaning to try it."

Once food was ordered Krysia looked at Mindo curiously, "Would you think me rude if I asked about you?, as an archaeologist and anthropologist I'm always curious about new people and races I meet."

"You interest me as well," said Mindo. "I believe I've heard of Drax, but I've never met one and couldn't point one out in a crowd if my life depended on it. So this should be interesting for both of us!" He grinned. "What would you like to know?"

"Anything really" she grinned, "I'm just fascinated to learn about you & your people, it's obviously not something I can learn all in one go but a run down would be a start."

"Well, let's see... I'm a Fesarian from the province of Eloi on Fesaria. I was born and raised there. As you could probably tell, we're all a bit small. Some people mistake us for children at times, though up close adult Fesarians look very much their age. We have long lifespans and are one of the original races from the first Federation, many years before Starfleet's time. We..." Mindo hesitated here. "We have strong libidos. Sex in my culture is seen more as a recreational past time and less an exclusive act of love. Many of us have found that drinking large amounts of alcohol helps ease our sex drive, so we've become very good brewers. Our signature drink is called 'tranya,' and is made all over our planet. Like beer, there are several ways to make tranya, although it is much, much stronger than the average ale. That said, tranya is not as strong as Romulan Ale. Maybe just shy of Saurian Brandy. At Starfleet Academy I was either getting in trouble for drinking to much, or consorting with various cadets and faculty. It wasn't until they realized the drinking affects the 'consorting' that they let me drink again. Fesarians also suffer from high anxiety and alcohol helps with that too, though I wouldn't recommend that remedy for most races. So we're basically a planet of drinkers and sex addicts. At least, that's how most races see us." Mindo paused to take a drink, wondering if he'd been rambling too much. Setting his glass down he said, "What about you and your people?"

"Me?" She paused for a moment, "I'm somewhat of an unknown on my world I'm the only half Drax to date. You could say we're kind of like Betazoids but our abilities are stronger. I'm still learning full control of mine, I haven't learned how to use my telekinesis yet."

"Ah," said Mindo. "And how many people ask you to read their mind when you tell them this?"

"So far?" She grinned "none here but there were a few at the academy who thought having minds read for fun would be good. It's not something I do without permission as it's considered a violation. As for my people they welcome contact there are several Ambassadorial groups visiting planets as we speak."

"Sounds exciting!" said Mindo. "Do you have family? Any siblings?"

“I do.. a half brother & sister but they don’t know about me yet” she smiled, “I aim to rectify that soon.”

"Really? How?" asked Mindo.

“Long story!” She grinned. At that moment their food arrived she had to admit she’d been looking forward to tucking into a good meal, “let’s dig in, it looks delicious!!”

They talked as they ate. "How long have you been in Starfleet?" Mindo asked.

“12 years if you include the 4 years spent at the academy” she smiled, “feels longer somehow but in a good way, I love being in Starfleet. How about you?”

Mindo thought about it. "Including Academy? About nine years I think. I enrolled younger than most people. Fesarians mature faster than other races. We're usually in college by age thirteen. I dropped out of my university on Fesaria after two awful years and enlisted in Starfleet at age sixteen. My life has been different ever since!"

“I guess I can understand that” she nodded in agreement, “so what drew you to working in engineering?, just something you enjoy or was it just something you were good at?”

"I kind of fell into it. First I wanted to go through Command, but everyone seemed to have problems taking me seriously, and ultimately I decided it wasn't for me. I liked the appeal of Engineering, though. It sounded exciting and risky. Every day is a new challenge. It keeps me fresh. Some people don't like that, though. What about you?"

“I gave Counselling some thought but I enjoyed Operations as well as Archaeology & Anthropology so I went with that” she grinned, “it gave me a varied timetable at the academy to enjoy.”

"I bet," said Mindo. "There are so many things to study at the Academy. I was also fascinated by Archaeology, but I only took one class. Being an Engineer, I had to learn about Ops as well. Engineers are expected to double as Operations officers at times."

"Of course" she nodded, "visa versa for me so if you ever need a hand in engineering give me a shout, speaking of which what is the current status in engineering? I could see your people were busy is there anything you need extra resources for?"

"Extra resources!" Mindo started laughing. "It feels like we always need extra resources!" He shook his head. "Oh, Engineering is hard at work. We're still recovering from the battle with the Carnage. Shields are low, engines are banged up, we've got issues with structure integrity on the whole front of the ship... This is the first time I've had a break in thirty-six hours!"

"Seriously!" Krysia shook her head, "in that case I'll have as many people as I can round up over to help you out, this ship isn't going to go anywhere if the engines, shields and structural integrity aren't sorted. I'll find you people if you don't mind sparing me some of yours for stints in other departments to help out with repairs once engineering is sorted?"

Mindo nodded. "Of course, though that could be hard given the fact that Engineering is never fully sorted."

"Well if you don't have people spare then I'll work around it" she grinned, "we are supposed to be more or less miracle workers after all. I'll help out myself once I've got Ops & anything else that gets thrown at me sorted I'm expecting to be kept busy!."

"Welcome to the Pandora, Lieutenant," Mindo said with a smile. "There's never a dull moment."
