With Katrine safely playing under the watchful eye of a nursemaid, Emilie was once again left trying to find out what had happened to her husband. She hated leaving her daughter so soon after the tumultuous events of the particle wave, but with comms out, she was having a hard time getting a hold of Nyx or anyone she could talk to. After her previous experience in this position she was trying to stay calm and not overreact, and was trying very hard to keep her cool despite that gnawing sense of panic and doom that was sitting heavily in her mind.
She had passed a few medical officers and Security personnel on her way up to Deck One, though they were used to ushering her past and were obviously still very busy, so she walked through unnoticed. She was alarmed to hear one of the Security Officers remarking that Cailus was nowhere to be found. This didn't do Emilie's nerves any good and she had to work hard to swallow that rising nausea and keep on moving.
Arriving at the Captain's Ready Room, Emilie couldn't wait to walk in and find Nyx. She knew he would be annoyed at her for interrupting his important work organising the crew, but it would be worth it for them to see each other again. She would just go in, make sure he was alright, report that she and Katrine were okay, and head back down to their crew quarters to await for him to deal with the situation. Yes, that's exactly what would happen. She'd just quickly see Nyx and everything would be fine.
Emilie's heart sank, of course, as she turned the corner into the Ready Room, the door having been left wide open by manual override, only to see Commander Nash standing where Nyx should be.
"Owen?" She called out from the doorway.
Owen looked up from his chain of thought. "Emilie, thank goodness your safe," he said, feeling relieved to see her in one piece. With her being off the Bridge during the time the Wave hit, this confirmed his theory that only the Bridge was affected.
Owen walked over to Emilie. "I'm sure your worried and concerned at this time. Please let me assure you we are doing everything we can," he said, being as gentle as possible.
‘He was gone again’, the thought loudly rang around Emilie’s head as the realisation sunk in. She looked to the obviously tired and stressed Commander and wanted to cry. Something terrible had happened, worse than before, and she would be left alone to pick up the pieces.
“Where’s Nyx?” She asked softly, almost afraid to hear the answer.
Owen decided to be honest in this time of crisis, especially after the worry Nyx had said that Emilie had gone through whilst he was aboard the Ravager.
"I'll come straight to the point...The Pandora was investigating a natural phenemonon that sweeps through the Expanse. However a probe we sent out to record further data seems to have caused a reaction in the phenemonon," Owen explained.
"The Pandora suffered damage however, upon further investigation it seems that the Senior Officers on the Bridge and any on duty Bridge personnel have disappeared...including Nyx..." He explained.
Knowing that this brief explanation didnt help at all, Owen carefully added... "We are doing everything we can to locate Nyx and the missing officers and to understand whats happened here." Whilst he knew that on a personal he was worried about Krys, knowing that his friend and Captain were missing with his Wife and Daughter left behind was a very difficult situation.
Emilie sank down into the couch nearby and stared out into the distance. "Oh." She commented flatly. "Last time at least, you knew where he was but now..." She tried to hold back the flood of tears, but some were starting to fall from her eyes. "Who... who else was with him?"
Owen could see Emilie start to well up and tried himself to stop from doing the same. He put a comforting arm aroundher shoulder. However after the conversation he'd just had with Admiral Li, Owen felt like he was almost stabbing her in the back.
"Nyx, Lieutenants Brennan, Kaleri, Griffin, Smith, Frost, Fick and Louis. They were all on the Bridge when the wave hit...they are all of the Bridge officers missing," he explained.
"Oh." She said again, just as hollow as the last time. "At least he's not alone." She said it so distantly, so calmly, but inside her head was a chaotic storm of questions, grief, and fear.
"Emilie, look at me for a moment please," Owen carefully requested. When she looked him clear in the eyes, Owen could see more tears beginning to well up.
"I'm going to get him back... I'm going to get them all back," Owen promised. "I swear on my oath as a Starfleet Officer. I will get your husband...my friend and all of my friends back home... I swear it Emilie." All the time he said this, he kept himself in place, staying strong even just for her sake.
Emilie stared at Owen for a moment, trying to hear his heads and take it in. It was hard not to feel like her world was crumbling around her - again - but she knew there was a little girl waiting for her back in their quarters who needed her to be strong. So she took a long deep breath and wiped her cheeks. "Okay, I believe you, Owen. I won't hold you up any longer, you need to get back to finding our people." She tried a smile.
"I'll let you know whats happening as soon as I have some news, I promise," Owen re-affirmed to her. His word was now on the line and he had a promise to keep.
"Thank you." Emilie said, holding her hand to his arm gently. Taking in another deep breath she nodded and walked away.
Owen walked out behind Emilie, watching her leave the Bridge and head back to Katrine. Owen didnt have children but he did have family...and he was worried enough as it was.
As he walked outside, Owen saw Counsellor Jameson waiting for him...
