He craved the cold tallboy can of Old Milwaukee Ice beer. He could down, chug a few and get at least some sort of buzz coming on. Sure, there were plenty of drugs and medications within the Medical Bay that could be used to get stoned, he swore an ethical oath not to abuse or steal the medications in store. He wasn't a druggie, however, he could easily enjoy a few tall cans of brew.
Walking in to the Pandora's Box, Tyson had carried a few of his binders and pens in his case of notes and patient notations to be entered into the computer. He used a Dictaphone to then send it to the computer. He had his ways.
Immediately upon entering Tyson had spotted Emilie the Captain’s wife. She was sitting by her self. Tyson wondered if he should say 'hello'.
Emilie was sat at the wooden bar, though she was only drinking a ginger ale. She felt it eased her stomach during the queasiness of morning sickness. But in truth, she just didn’t want to be in her quarters, where she was constantly reminded of Nyx and his absence. She hadn’t slept at all the previous night, as every time she closed her eyes she was confronted with images of Nyx in distress. Now she just wanted to be somewhere lively and full of people so her mind wouldn’t allow herself to be tormented.
She was grateful to see Doctor Brookes’ entrance and nodded to him from the distance. “Having a well-earned break, Doctor?” She called out to him.
Tyson was happy to be acknowledged by Emilie. Often people in the Pandora's Box chose to keep to themselves by looking down at the table or bar, stewing in thoughts.
He was happy to converse with her, she always had an opinion worth a good discussion. Yet, Emilie was going through what could be described as a personal hell. The crew missing their Captain was demoralizing enough, yet here Emilie was missing her husband, left with a daughter to console and try and answer questions of where her own Father was.
Tyson sat down ensuring a seat between the two at the bar. "Emilie, a Doctor is always on call. What is this break you speak of?" He grinned.
Emilie nodded with only a slight smile. "Of course, this must be an incredibly hectic time for you." She hoped small talk would be enough to take her mind off Nyx for a moment, it had been emotionally draining to think and worry about him all this time. Especially as it always felt like he was around.
Seeing the imminent conversation, Huyo the bartender drifted along the bar to where they were sitting. She was glad to see the doctor engage Emilie in conversation, and with her usual warm smile, she said "Can I get you anything, Tyson?"
"Emilie would you share a bottle of wine with me?"
"I guess you really must be busy." Emilie replied, as she leaned back and indicated towards her slightly growing stomach. "I don't think the baby would appreciate me drinking, do you?" She winked to them both. "I'll stick to my ginger ale."
Tyson blushed. He then smiled at Emilie's baby bump at the bar table. The baby was healthy as far as his latest updates. "I am incredibly embarrassed. You must take out a claim of incompetence of my medical schooling." He shook his head playfully, and then looked up and winked at Emilie.
"In two days you have an appointment with me in Medical Bay I want another set of scans to be ready...” He was about to say ‘for Captain Nyx’, so the Captain would be up to date on his baby as soon as he had arrived back on the Pandora. Tyson had no doubt the Captain wouldn't arrive back on the Pandora.
Re-thinking... "Huyo. Would you be as kind to find us two bottles of Rum and Coconut Breezers… Cold, with a plate of guacamole dip and crunchy pita chips? Of course the drink please be synthaholic." He smiled at Emilie.
"Of course," Huyo said with a hint of derision, although it was softened by a wink. "All drinks in the Box are non-alcoholic unless someone specifically requests something else. And really, hun, even a Deltan like me knows better than to give alcohol to a pregnant human."
“Very well.” Emilie replied with a small smile, feeling like she was socially required to join in. She raised the glass, trying to find the energy to be cheerful. “To our absent friends and family.” The thought of her absent family in particular sent a chill down her back; she closed her eyes and saw Nyx and tried to push the image away again.
After a drink and then setting it down, Tyson let the cold coconut and taste of rum relax him and his incredibly long day in the Medical Bay. He didn't like to pry, yet it seemed the best time to speak to Emilie at how she was doing? Was she doing? No. She wasn't doing the greatest he had imagined.
"I hope you can find peace and comfort with us, the crew of the Pandora. I can only imagine what you are going through." He kept it at that.
“We’re all going through it.” She replied diplomatically, putting on a smile. She didn’t want to talk about it really, she was getting enough flashes of his face, his voice, and his scent already.
"I feel we need some sort of morale event on the ship. We need to open a holodeck and just enjoy and let loose. What do you think of that Huyo?" He winked at the Deltan.
“Hey Huyo, how did you manage that?” Came the voice of a junior officer as he approached the bar. The young officer pointed off to the other side of the Eclipse where a crowd had gathered. A small group was standing around in a circle watching something with great amusement.
Huyo blinked in surprise at the young man, plainly having no idea what he was talking about. "Manage what, dear?" she asked curiously.
“Those blue lights. Over there.” Replied the officer, a look of confusion on his face. “How did you get localised transporter energy to appear in the bar?”
"Localised...oh my, what is that?" Huyo said, surprise turning to alarm as she caught a glimpse of the mysterious sparkly blue cloud that the crowd were watching. "Transporter energy, you say? Honey, I don't even know what transporter energy is! That...thing, cloud, whatever it is, has nothing to do with me. It isn't dangerous, is it?"
“I’ve seen this before.” Emilie whispered, though her gaze was transfixed on the swirling lights in front of them. As if possessed she started walking towards the phenomenon, stepping past the gathered audience and moving in front of everyone. “It’s him.” She declared, reaching out her hand. “I know it is!”
As Emilie inched closer to the blue lights, her eyes wide with excitement, others leaned in to see what would happen. However, as her fingers were almost touching the energy cloud it suddenly shimmered with a bright burst of light and faded away into nothing. There was nothing but the ground in front of them.
"NOOO!" Emilie screamed, pounding her fists onto the floor. "It was him! It was him!"
An officer politely tried to put an arm around the Captain's wife as she began to sob into her hands. Whatever mental barrier she had erected around her emotions to keep her from falling apart had just collapsed and she was allowing her grief to show.
