Mission:
New Moon Rising
Location: Recreation Deck - Eclipse Bar
Timeline: En-Route
Nycolas Temple was having a rare moment off duty as the USS Pandora sailed towards their destiny in the Inconnu Expanse. With his paperwork filed, reports complete, and duties fulfilled, he was enjoying a quiet drink sitting by the large window of the Luna Eclipse Bar. The extended windows afforded the viewer a large, uninterrupted panorama of the space around them as the Pandora flew past at warp. Most the stars, planets, and outposts were just flashing blurs amongst the black backdrop of the universe but Temple enjoyed the view nonetheless.
He was even happier, however, to look up and see Chief Medical Officer Kolbeck arriving at the Eclipse, making a loud and enthusiastic gesture for the doctor to join him.
"Hej Van, over here!" The captain called out.
Van was on his way for a good stiff drink. Most of the sickbay computers were working on crew analytics. Ensign Adaestron was in charge of Sickbay while Kolbeck was off duty which his time had just started.
Having spent time in his quarters alone, Kolbeck was bored. Skogcatt, his Norwegian Forrest cat, was content sleeping on top of Van’s novel titled Hunger by Knut Hamsun.
A smile had formed on his face. His name was called out, especially on a Star Ship that he had felt alone thus far. “Captain.” He walked in the quiet lounge. The pin streaks of light passing by the large windows fantastically.
“Bror! Do not drink alone.” He walked up to the Captain at his table.
"Nej, that's what this chair is for," Nyx replied, nudging the empty seat out from underneath his table so the Doctor could sit down.
Kolbeck let his large back relax back into the seat, letting out a nice sigh of relaxing. “Fin seter de er! Hahaha.” Kolbeck grunted.
The captain signalled over a member of the service staff with his trademark wide smile, and a young female yeoman appeared quickly.
"Gentlemen," She began with a polite nod, "What can I get for you?"
Nyx shrugged, "How about a pint of Ringnes ale?"
“Ah! Rignes I have not heard in long time. One-pint Rignes. One Pint Nøgne.” He gestured and cracked his knuckles. The two Scandinavian brutes splayed out in the small chairs. “Why to stop for one when we can have two?” He chuckled.
“Where did you source workers for this bar?” He chuckled. “Risa?”
Nyx gave a jovial laugh, "Trust the Scandis to be the drunks of the ships. You're going to give me a reputations, min bror."
The server returned quickly with their drinks and Nyx watched Van's face seriously, trying not to crack a smile before she departed. "Nej, our staff come highly trained and qualified from the civilian and Starfleet hospitality sectors."
Kolbeck nodded. Then he looked out at the stars as they were nearing further from Federation Space into the Corridor.
“Fortell meg hva din Danmark var som.” Van let his mind wander back to the days of home soil. Particularly Van waking up in his independent days of fresh youth, his apartment. A lady friend in his bed. His view of the world. The cobblestoned streets below in a busy morning rush. Opening the window, the panes cracking open letting in the fresh cool rain. The sound of the byen klokke.
Nyx leaned back and sighed with a pleasant smile, "Ah min Denmark. It's interesting there. The cultural protectionist groups have done a lot of work recently restoring and sometimes recreating old Copenhagen. Thanks to min mor, I was able to gain an apartment by the canal in Nyhavn. It was refreshing to be able to look out and see the sailboats and brightly coloured historical buildings, instead of all the skyscrapers and concrete."
Kolbeck nodded. Nyx had an obvious connection to his Province. Van evoked an element of Jockular fun manner to the conversation. “I shall have yet to see you on the Holodeck.”
“Any Dane worth his latinum knows a good game of Hand Ball or Hockey game.” He cockily tapped the top of his glass of Rignes. He got a kick and a bit of a rush taunting the Danish Man. Both of them knew the intense sporting culture between the two Nations back on Earth.
“Of course I only play.” He decided to back down in good humor just in case the Captain did not know Hand Ball, but it was the test of any Countrymen.
"Ja, Doctor, I have a ship to run," He replied in similar jest, spreading his arms out wide to indicate around him, as if he were personally responsible for all the ship's operations, "But if you'd like to spend your rest period getting your röv handed to you, we can certainly make a time."
Van chuckled and nodded. "La meg bare få deg en meny, fordi du er i ferd med å få servert."
"Servert? Neppe! Actually, your young Ensign assistant also inquired about spending time in the Holodeck," Temple replied with a raised eyebrow, "Perhaps we can rouse more players and make up some teams? Loser goes on night duty for the week."
"Sounds like a fun game Sir." He replied.
"Indeed, Norske." Temple responded, tongue firmly in cheek. "Tell me, did you get spend much time back home before coming onboard, or did you come straight from your last ship. The Kincaid, right?"
Kolbeck slightly smiled. He had a short experience on the Kincaid, but a lively experience. He was offered a great amount of work spreading his wings. For the first time in his life, Van had felt vulnerable, and he needed an amount of emotional re-set time. Van immersed his self on studies and recreation after the death of his Wife, Karen Kolbeck. Achieving the position of CMO on the Pandora was in a way the next step in his recovery.
“Ja. The Kincaid offered me a lot of hardship Sir, but a lot of personal growth.” He swirled his drink. “Mitt hjerte ble gjenfødt.” He then looked around at the large spacious Pandora recreation deck and bar.
“But now I am here. Wit minn bro!” He raised his glass in cheers. “To new adventures!”
"En fantastisk prestasjon." Nyx replied in turn, giving the Doctor a nod. "To new adventures."
