Mission: The Evils Within
Location: Deck 1 - Ready Room

James left his quarters and made his way to the nearest turbo lift. This mission had him intrigued so instead of heading to his office, he decided he should talk with his old friend. He was worried about Nyx and the added stress that he had knowing Emilie was overdue. Smith waited as the turbo lift came to its location and the doors opened. Walking onto the Bridge, he looked around before heading to the Captain's Ready Room, then activated the chime to let him know someone was there.

Having just made it back to his office after meeting with Lt. Commander Griffin, Nyx had tried to reach Emilie in their quarters but got no response. He realised she must have gone to the Doctors and Nyx was glad that she was finally receiving some advice from Doctor Alves about their overdue baby, though he had also been quite calmed by his chat with Cailus. The Captain was just settling in to do some paperwork, hoping to finish up early in order to see Emilie when the door chime rang. Surprised to be receiving a visitor, Nyx raised an eyebrow as he peered at the door, "Come in." He called out.

James walked in and made his way over to the Captain's desk before sitting down. Looking at Nyx he said, “How is Emilie doing?" James wanted to start with the more personal stuff before he started to ask the Captain about the upcoming mission.

"Tired." Nyx sighed, immediately empathising with his wife's situation, "The baby has shifted position but still doesn't look like they're coming out of there. Ems is going to see Doctor Alves today to see if we can't naturally help things along."

James could tell that Nyx was tired and he was a bit concerned. James said, “Hopefully the doctor can gets things going for her. But remember you're no good to her or this ship if you collapse from exhaustion. You need to take care of yourself as well.”

Nyx gave a warm smile to his old friend, "I will, of course. I would have been happier if we'd been able to get to Carnwennan Station."

James sighed a bit, “Nyx this new mission we are on; is there anything you can tell me about it? Classified and top secret tells me that StarFleet Intelligence is involved, however, I haven’t received any messages from that end. What kind of danger do they have us flying into?”

"I honestly don't know." Nyx replied, "I'm hoping to get more information now that we're en route to the Hesiod system, but I have nothing concrete right now. I had a scour of the database and while there was reports of Federation assets using the Carnwennan Corridor to travel to the area, there's nothing about what they built or why, or who was there. We're going in blind."

James shook his head; it wasn’t the first time they were sent into a situation with little detail, but to have no Intel at all really bothered him. What bothered him more was the fact he still hadn’t received anything from Star Fleet Intellegence and that really bugged him. Turning to Nyx, he said, “Anything my department can do to assist, and when we approach I’ll probably be on the bridge monitoring things from there.”

"Something this top secret has to be significant." Nyx nodded, "And it's likely that whoever we're rescuing is going to be deeply suspicious of us, too. I doubt they're just going to reveal everything the moment we show up on their doorstep. We'll have to find subtle ways to uncover information; keep note of any detail, no matter how insignificant it may become. We learned from Paradise that we have to keep our eyes open at all times in the Expanse. This mission will be no exception."

“Agreed” Smith replied. “I would also like to volunteer for any away mission, I believe I could be of use on the planet.” James continued, “something tells me that whatever we are going to do is extremely important and we are going to need our best people on the ground.”

“Absolutely.” Nyx said firmly, “I know Griffin will want me to stay out of trouble this time, too, so I won’t be able to strap on a phaser and run into trouble like we used to.”

James chuckled a bit, “I understand where Griffin is coming from. Krys would keep me on board if she could.” James stood to take his leave, “If there’s anything Krysia or I can do to help you and Emilie, please let us know."

"I'll know when you know." Nyx answered glibly, but that was the true state of their situation. He couldn't tell the crew anything more, because he simply didn't know any more. "Thanks for the visit, Smithy."

James turned to leave, he was thinking about his family onboard the ship. However, the new mission was also on his mind. He hoped that their would be no real trouble and they could get back to the station for some R&R.

Nyx sat back down in his chair and sighed, once again grateful for the crew around him. He kept saying they were like family, but he honestly meant it. The conversations he'd had today with Mindo, Boucher, Kaleri, Griffin, and now Smith, had each cemented the sense of connection and deep familiarity he felt with the Pandora team. It was a feeling he had never experienced on another ship before, and he was damned lucky to have it now.

The Captain was about to return to his paperwork when he received an urgent message.

=/\= "Mindo to Captain Temple: Your wife is in labor and we are stuck in the damaged turbolift. I'm working on repairing the lift, but it will take some time. She told me to contact you."=/\=

Nyx sat for a moment as the information sunk in. After a pause, he shouted "OH FRACK!"
