A Stop in Sick Bay

Mission: The Evils Within
Location: Sick Bay
Timeline: Earlier in the day

[ON:]

Declan was having issues with his eyesight. The more he tried to focus on the corridor in front of him, the more his eyes seemed to burn. This concerned him, as losing his eyesight was not something he wanted to play around.

Entering Sick Bay, he had bumped into one of the Nurses. “Sorry, Ma’am.” He brushed by her. Not to sound rude, he did want to visit the Ph.D. in charge.

“Is the Doctor around?” He asked a bit of concern in his voice.

“You’re in luck there’s two!” Aeryn smiled as she appeared from where she’d been checking medical supplies. “Let me help you over to a biobed Declan.” She gently took his arm and helped guide him. “Just sit right here and Doctor Alves will take a look at you.”

After a few moments, Declan became concerned. "Uh, Aeryn. I don't see the Doctor around." He spoke from the bed. "And I use the word seeing," he stressed, "very loosely at the moment."

"Excuse me Doctor" one of the nurses approached Aeryn. "It seems Doctor Alves has been reassigned to Hesiod Blue, she didn't have time to tell you in person I'm afraid."

"Thank you" Aeryn offered a smile before turning back to Declan. "It seems I'm it for the time being, I guess I don't need to ask what's wrong I can see the problem for myself. How are you getting on with the meds you were given for your cough?" She picked up a tricorder and ran a scan of Declan's swollen looking eyelids. "Any side effects?"

Declan smiled. "Very well, thank you Aeryn." He paused. "Side effects? Could swollen eyes be brought on from... The medication?" He questioned. "You have to forgive me," he forced a frown "I normally am treated to your beautiful smile to see." He shrugged.

Aeryn smiled warmly. “Don’t worry you’ll soon get to see my smile again.” She picked up a hypospray from a nearby tray. “It is possible that this is an allergic reaction to something but I doubt it’s your medication, that would cause whole body symptoms and you seem okay apart from your eyes. I think this is more a reaction to what happened on the planet, it’s just taken it’s time to flare up.” She pressed a hypospray to his neck. “I’ve given you an anti-inflammatory which should help stop any further inflammation and I’m going to run a regenerator over your eyelids to see if I can get this swelling down for you so you can see. You’ll need to close your eyes for me.”

James nodded, as he did as he was told.

“Hold nice and still now” She picked up the dermal regenerator and gently ran it over his eyelids. It took a few minutes but the swelling slowly started to subside. “There, open your eyes and tell me what you can see.”

"It..." He winked a few times, refreshing his eyes. "I can see light, its not fuzzy or patchy anymore." He breathed a sigh of relief. He held up his hand to his face and tried to focus in on it. And then tried his far away vision. He turned to Aeryn. "Thank you Aeryn. I'm extremely grateful." He smiled. "And to be able to see you again!"

Aeryn smiled warmly. “My pleasure. On a scale of 1 to 10 how good would you say your eyesight is now?”

"A damn right 11!" He chuckled.

“Excellent!” Aeryn grinned. “You shouldn’t have any further problems but if you do come back and see me, even if it’s the slightest thing.”

"Thank you, Nurse Jameson. Agreed." He then stood up from the bio bed, and stretched his forearms above his head. He then left the sick bay, fit for wear.
