Family reunion

Posted on Sun Oct 4th, 2020 @ 5:10pm by Commander Owen Nash & Lieutenant Krysia Kaleri-Smith

Mission: The Evils Within
Location: Owen’s Quarters
Timeline: Following on from "A Plea"

The end of shift couldn’t come fast enough for Krysia, she’d seen Owen back aboard but had barely had time to speak to him. Now their day was over she quickly headed for Owen’s Quarters to see him, leaning on the chime somewhat harder than she’d planned she cringed as it rang and kept ringing until it eventually stopped with a strange noise.

Owen was just unpacking his belongings after what seemed like a long day being back onboard the Luna Class starship, especially after his meeting with both Captain Temple and Lieutenant Roderick.

Suddenly he caught notice of the door chime making a funny noise as if it was stuck. He made his way over to the door, which he noticed didn't open automatically either. "What the hell?" he asked as he pressed the access button on the panel. A moment later, he found Krys waiting outside his quarters.

"You know, you could've knocked," he said with a smile on his face.

“Sorry!” Krys smiled as she greeted her brother, “I was so eager to see you that I practically bashed the chime! Blame me if it’s broken!!” She gave him a longing look as she stepped inside waiting for the door to close before giving him a big hug as best as she could with her bulging waistline in the way. “I’ve missed you!! It’s so good to have you back!!”

Owen hugged her back an could tell that she had missed him a lot, especially as the last time they spoke was back on Carwennan station in what seemed like an eternity ago.

"Its ok, I can fix it, I've got some spares here," he said as they hugged before he stood back a bit. "You're looking very pregnant! How are you? I'm sorry I haven't had the chance to catch up with you, things have been very busy."

As he stood there, Owen felt a tear fall down his cheek, now releasing ho much he had missed his stepsister and seeing how bubbly she was. Something he had never forgotten whilst he was away, was the memory of her smile when times were bad and that had been one thing that kept him going.

“Seven months now!” Krys grinned as she stood back and rested her hands on her bump. “These two are an active pair I can tell you! They normally liven up when I’m trying to get some rest. Believe it or not, I actually got to go out on away party duty! It came as quite a surprise when the Captain chose me, I thought I’d be tethered to the ship.”

Owen couldn't help but laugh. "Well, they do say that Pregnancy isn't an illness so, I'm sure if he felt it was necessary for the away mission parameters, you were chosen in good faith," he said. Then he suddenly realised of how bad the conditions were down on Hesiod Green, from the reports he had read.

"So, you're ok? Despite having been down on the planet surface... I mean, from what I read, it wasn't pretty down there..." he added as he wanted to make sure that she was alright. He knew that Krys was a resilient and stubborn person at times and he also knew that she would make a great mother.

“I’m fine, just ended up with a few bumps and bruises whilst escaping the caverns. I got checked over when we arrived back to make sure the twins were okay. We’re all fine.” Krys smiled warmly. “I was more worried about you being off ship and James being down on the planet with the other away team, but we’re all back together now and that’s what matters.”

Owen smiled. "I'll be honest, it has been quite a ride whilst I was away," he admitted to her. "I missed you a lot and being back on board the Pandora. I've never really shaken the feeling that shes my real true home...maybe one I'll never leave if I had the chance," he said.

"I had to think on my feet whilst I was out there and it made me realise that the Universe isn't as black and white as I thought it was... Starfleet has often sheltered me from these things," he added before sitting down.

Krys nodded as she sat down and made herself as comfortable as she could be in her condition. “To be honest my home for years was anywhere I could be following you around. Since boarding this ship and marrying James I’ve come to realise that my home is not just with James but with the Pandora and of course, you!” She grinned. “I still find myself looking back on events in the bubble even though this reality no longer follows the way that reality went. I’d be lost without you Owen.”

Owen smiled as he realised that having family on board was still an important matter for Krys and he was glad of this. After spending the many years keeping in touch with his father as best he could, finding Krys whilst he was aboard the Pandora was a breath of fresh air.

"Well, I'm not going anywhere," he started. "At least not until either Starfleet Command decides I'm needed elsewhere on another assignment, or Captain Temple gets fed up of me keeping him on course...and somehow I don't think he minds me being around." Owen laughed a little afterwards when he caught himself saying what he did.

"Its good to laugh again, I've missed doing that of late," he added.

Krys nodded in agreement. "It's good to see you happy Owen. To be honest after what happened, or as Starfleet would have it ... Didn't happen ... In the bubble universe, I was afraid that real life would follow the same path. To be honest I'm glad it hasn't, I'm much happier this way and I'm looking forward to being a mother."

"You're going to make a great mother and James is going to be a great father as well. Your children will be spoilt by having such wonderful parents to look up to," Owen said. He stopped for a moment. Looking at Krys who was just glowing in her pregnant state.

"Maybe one day, I'll find someone to settle down with and think about having children with too. I know Dad is already over the moon about the thought of being a grandfather. Now he's nagging on me in almost every contact we've made to ask when it's my turn to settle down." Owen smiled at that as he recalled the time he spent with the XO of the Palatine and wondered if that would repeat itself again...

“Ahh I’ve seen that smile before!” Krys grinned. “Whose the lucky lady you’re thinking of?”

"Well, there may be a lucky lady... it just depends on if she feels the same way and if she agrees to wan to make this work. We simply had...dinner," he said, trying not to give away too much from his one date so far.

“Owen if you want to find yourself a woman then find one!” Krys gave her brother a smile. “If you want a family then do it before it’s too late and you’re too old to enjoy it,”

"Well, let's see what happens first," he admitted, before playfully pointing as her enlarged bump. "It does take two to tango in most cases. I left the ball in her court to decide what happens next but either way, we're keeping in touch."

Looking up at the chronometer on the wall, Owen suddenly realised the time. "Damn, I'm supposed to be catching up with the Captain in half an hour. Time flies when your having fun eh?" he said, moving to pack some more of his belongings away.

“In that case, I’ll go and let you get on” Krys smiled warmly as she turned to leave. “Oh and I want to meet this woman if she decides she’s interested that is.”

Owen smiled before moving over to Krys and going her a gentle hug. "As soon as she makes her mind up about this, I'll introduce her to you," he said. "You'll be the first to know who she is and the first to meet her. I swear."

He smiled as he watched Krys leave and realised that he'd missed her a lot as well as missing being home again once more on the Pandora.
