Mission: Into the Wild

A Mission Post by Lieutenant Katniss Wakefield & Lieutenant JG Machwen Adaestron & Crewman Alexander Tannis
Mission: Into The Wild
Location: Sickbay

Katniss had only called into Sickbay once and that was for her medical and to introduce herself and offer her assistance when needed. After all, she was a fully trained medical doctor, she had offered the medical crew dinner, but once again after the offer, that went to the back burner. That was probably why she was never called upon, people really didn't know her.

After the Captain had called to her lab, she was shocked to hear what the crew and ship had gone through, she was oblivious to it, her attention drawn into her own research and her own lab. She hadn't left in days, hence why it was so messy. So she had laid down her work and Sickbay was her first port of call, she had offered Ensign Adaestron and Lieutenant Kolbeck dinner and she was going to make firm plans with them this time, not just put in on the backburner, she really needed to work with the crew, let them know she was there and just generally socialise more.

It didn't take Katniss long to reach sickbay, a wide smile and glint in her eye she casually walked in. "Kolbeck." she bellowed at the top of her voice, expecting him to poke his head from around a corner. But no reply came instead silence. The smile slowly faded from her face. "Anyone?" she yelled instead.

Suddenly, there was a bump, and Crewman Tannis popped his head, with his hand rubbing it, up from under his desk. "Lieutenant Wakefield," he said in his southern accent, "I'm afraid Kolbeck had a bad accident, did you not know?" he asked.

Katniss looked the young man up and down, she didn't recognise him, she pondered what she had just heard for a moment...Kolbeck...accident. Instead of a smile a look concern now showed on her face. "N....No...I didn't know," she mumbled "What happened and what about Ensign Adaestron?" she asked in her soft confused voice. How on earth had she missed this?

"Oh," Tannis paused in confusion, "he had a lot of plasma burns. He's stable but in a coma. I'm sure he'll be fine."

Tannis resumed standing up and stepped over to Lieutenant Wakefield. "Lieutenant Adaestron has just had to go back to his quarters to get something, he should be back any moment," he told her

Katniss looked at the crewmen again, "I'm sure he'll be fine, is that a medical opinion, Crewmen?." she asked with a raised eyebrow. "If I was a loved one or a patient's relative, I don't think I would like to hear I'm sure they'll be fine. You have to give it as it is, no uncertainty. If someone is going to die, you have to prepare them for it, not reassure them." she lectured while shaking her head. "Just what are they teaching you these days?"

"I'm sorry, Lieutenant," Tannis responded, slightly shocked at the small outburst, "Ensign Adaestron told me this morning that Carwennian Station's sickbay were planning on taking him out of the coma today, so he's definitely making a recovery."

Katniss hadn't meant to snap at the poor Crewman, she was more frustrated with herself than him for not knowing, she should have known, she should of kept herself up to date with things. "Well if I am ever stood over you with your intestines in my hands or I'm holding one of your limbs and I say, I'm sure you'll be fine, then panic." With that she slowly began to walk to the CMO's office, I'll wait for the Ensign in his office, she said with a gentle nod.

Just as Katniss walked into Machwen's office, he returned from his quarters. The door slid open, and he walked through. "Did anything happen whilst I was gone?" he asked to Crewman Tannis.

"Lieutenant Wakefiled came for you, she just walked into your office," he replied

"Ahh, well I best go see what she wants then," Machwen said, before walking into his office.

Katniss was being nosey when the Ensign arrived, she certainly did miss sickbay sometimes, helping and healing the sick, being with people at the most vulnerable point and as they exited this world, but research had her hooked she liked to get into the nook and crannies of things, solve mysteries and problems, but she kept up to and did the necessary hours to maintain her medical licence.

"Lieutenant," she said as she saw him approach out of the corner of her eye. Another thing she had missed, his promotion "I probably owe your crewman an apology, I didn't mean to be short with him," she said as she turned to face Machwen.

"No worries, Lieutenant, we're all used to people not being as police as they usually. It seems to be a sickbay thing when they or their loved ones are ill." Machwen responded, "What can I help you with?"

"I....I..." she paused for a moment, how could she explain. She had missed everything and did not even known about Kolbeck until today. Her eyes slowly met Machwen. "I'm sorry Ensign, I....I thought I would just drop by and check in, I seemed to have missed quite about while keeping myself locked up in my lab, I promised you and Kolbeck dinner and I was on my way to invite you both and then the crewman." she blurted out in a flustered way.

"Well it's good that you came late rather than never, isn't it?" Machwen said, trying to calm Wakefield down, "And I'm sure we can get your cooking to be replicated for Kolbeck."

"Congratulations on your promotion by the way," she said nodding towards the new pip on his uniform. "You must be really proud."

Katniss had never been one for small talk and she really didn't know why she had ended up in sickbay other than to check in with people, but she attempted a smile.

"So you and the Crewman, must do me the honour of allowing me to cook for you both, my quarters, day after tomorrow. After all I did promise."

"Well I know that I'm always happy to go to dinner, although I will make sure that I return the favour," Machwen thanked Wakefield, before calling out to Tannis, "Crewman Tannis! Are you free to go to dinner at Lieutenant Wakefield's quarters on the day after tomorrow?"

"I'm always free for food!" he called back.

Katniss smiled, "Excellent, casual dress and bring a bottle." she replied with a smile "Well I better not keep you, Ensign." as she started to visualise in her mind, what she was going to prepare and cook. "Say eighteen hundred hours?"

"Sounds good to me," Machwen replied, "I'll make sure Tannis gets off on time. It was nice having you in Sickbay."

"Excellent, see you both soon." With that she headed out of the office and back into sickbay, she tried to give the crewman half a smile "Crewman" she said as she quickly left sickbay preoccupied with that culinary delights she was going to create.
