Smith headed out of Krysia quarters and started making his way to Nyx quarters for breakfast. It had been a while since he had joined him and his wife a morning meal but he was looking forward to it. Their was so much going on in his head and he could wait to talk to his old friend about it. So much had happened within the last few hours he wasn’t sure where to begin. Arriving at their quarters James hit the Door Chime to announce his arrival.

Nyx was already up doing his morning exercises, while Katrine watched television, and Emilie was reading school reports at her desk; the Temple family in their usual busy morning routine. At the sound of the doorbell, Nyx finished his last push up and hopped up to his feet, only to be beaten to the door by his daughter.

"WHO IS IT?!" She yelled loudly through the door.

"Honey, indoor voice." Nyx chided her softly as he approached and pressed the open button.

Smith smiled even more at Katrine voice coming through the door and as the door opened Smith said, “So what’s for breakfast this morning.” Give Katrine a big bear hug, before turning his attention back to Nyx as he entered their quarters. Smith could help himself he hadn’t been this relaxed in along time and it felt really good. Looking at Nyx then and Emily he said, “I met the most amazing woman yesterday she made me feel so relaxed and good about myself.”

Looking at both of them he waited for there reaction and was waiting for he flood of questions that were surely to come his way.

Nyx remained wide eyed for a moment, before slowly looking down at Katrine, who staring up at him with a curious look. "Uh, darling, how about you finish your colouring before school?"

Katrine looked back between Smith and her father before shrugging and running off to do her work. In the background at her desk, Emilie was stifling a laugh. Moving over to the replicator, Nyx ordered up some coffees for the three of them. "So, what's her name?”

Smiling James took the coffee Nyx handed him, and said, “Her name is Krysia, the strangest thing is I felt like I knew her when we first met. She is remarkable, I haven’t felt this relaxed since Emily died. She reminds me so much of her.”

Smith looked at his friend and said, “I slept peacefully for the first time in ages, I forgot what it was like to be really happy.”

Nyx tried to hide his frown but it was hard not to be skeptical. "Lieutenant Kaleri? Well that is an interesting development. I'm glad you're happy mate, no one deserves it more than you, I just hope you're not rushing into things?"

Smith looked at his friend and noticed the look that he was given, “You are the only real family I have now Nyx, I never thought that I would ever feel this way again. To be honest when I first saw her I thought I was looking at my dead wife. I want to learn more about her and her family. I need more to my life then just seeking revenge on the Ravager and getting justice not only for my family but those that were brutally murdered during their raids.”

Nyx patted his friend firmly on the shoulder. "I guess it's a good thing you already know her brother. No one would blame you for taking your time to grieve, Smithy, but if you feel ready to start dating again, then I'm happy for you."

Smith smiled, “Thanks for the listening ear.” Smith looked at the time, “I know I have a staff meeting to get to, so what were we going to have for breakfast this morning.”

Nyx was in control of deciding on breakfast this morning, so he set about making a choice. He had the computer whiz up fluffy crepes with a light chocolate and orange sauce, with whipped cream on the side. It was a little indulgent for a work-day breakfast but Nyx figured after being held hostage by a homicidal pirate King, he deserved a treat. In fact, they all did.

“Hope you like it.” Nyx said as he set out plates for himself, Smithy, and Katrine. “It’s my mother’s old favourite, it reminds me of home.”

He carried another plate off to Emilie in the study area, as she was still nose-deep in PADDs.

Smith suddenly remembered another thing he needed to inform the captain about. Looking at Nyx James said, “I was also able to pull a large amount of data off the Carnage computer core, my staff and I plan on sifting through it. Hopefully we can find something to lead us to any of their bases.”

Katrine bundled up to the table and waited. Nyx and Emilie had been drilling her lately about manners and now, instead of scoffing her food down in two mouthfuls before anyone else had started, she had to wait patiently for everyone else to sit down. Nyx finally returned and seated himself back in the chair, before giving the nod of approval to his daughter.

“Yes, we got some pretty good intel.” Nyx replied to James as he scooped up his first mouthful. “We’ll also be sharing it with the rest of the Task Force, in case they come across anything else. Though it will take a while to analyse all of the data.”

Smith nodded as he started to eat as well, “My team and I are up to the challenge, it’s a satisfying turn of events getting the Carnage. It gets us one step closer to those that attacked DS7.”

“Indeed.” Nyx nodded firmly. “I just have this feeling from the Intel that we’ve only just scratched the true surface of the Ravager network. The Carnage was an outlier, a rogue’s rogue. There is more to their operations than just hunting ships and hitting planets for supplies.”

Nodding Smith said, “I agree, In the information I’ve looked at so far I keep getting references to a devise or weapon. I’m not sure if it’s something they are building or already have built but so far we haven’t determined that yet.”

Nyx could only gravely agree. "We'll have to keep a constant focus on monitoring noise in the region. Any chance we can get to gain intel from the locals, we have to take it. The Ravagers aren't just going to show up on our doorstop again, we have to invest in building relationships within the Expanse if we're going to find out anything." The Captain leaned over and found a PADD, "To that end, I believe we have our first lead. It's a supply and repair station called 'Paradise', near the Ferengi border. It appears the Carnage had visited there regularly before returning to their patrol area. Once we've had time to recover and do a bit more scientific exploration, I want us to head to Paradise and found out what they know."

Smith looked over the info and nodded, “I’ve been wanting to investigate that station for a time, if they are allowing pirates to stop their what else are they hiding.” Looking down at the empty plate before he smiled, “Well , I hate to leave but I have a staff meeting to get to.”

"Very well." Nyx smiled as he stood. "Katrine, say goodbye to Mr. Smith"

His daughter looked up from her plate, where she had been drawing faces in the chocolate sauce with her finger. "Bye bye!" She called out jovially.

Nyx laughed as he walked Smith to the door, he reached out his hand to shake with his friend. "You're more then welcome to come to this madhouse for breakfast any time, Smithy."

Shaking Nyx hand he said, “Thanks, and I’ll keep you posted on what we find.” Leaving Smith made his way toward the Intellgence office and the mysteries that awaited him.
