Mission: New Moon Rising
Location: Senior Crew Quarters, Deck 3

Nyx returned to his quarters with a furious glee, immediately jogging to his desk and ordering his computer to call Earth, as he hoped to reach his wife in Copenhagen. He was excited to tell her the news that Starfleet Marine Corp had a possible location on Tomar Gammit, the monster who lead the destruction of Lucis V, and would begin the hunt to bring him into custody. Nyx wanted her to know that the rogue Cardassian was going to be brought to justice and finally face punishment for his crimes. He knew it wouldn't bring back Lucis, or resolve the pain that Emilie felt when she lost her father and her home, but he hoped it could go some way into easing the crippling fear she now felt that prevented her from leaving Earth. He would do anything to see her happy again.

He had a clock running on his computer screen to constantly show the time in Copenhagen and though he was a few minutes late, it was still within the usual time period he'd agreed to call Emilie. However, the screen in front of him continued to show a frustratingly unhelpful "Connecting..." message.

"Connecting..."

"Connecting..."

[Earth, Copenhagen - Two Weeks Prior]

"Every time I call!" Nyx laughed, playfully tickling Emilie as they rolled around in bed together.

Emilie cried out with laughter, "No! Nyx! Stop it."

"Come on, I want a promise." Nyx replied, smiling, "Every time I call you'll answer. And vice versa."

The couple rolled around together once more, this time with Emilie landing on top and giving her enough room to grab hold of Nyx's wandering, tickling hands and pin them back onto the mattress. She leaned in and kissed his soft lips, her blond locks falling over their joined faces. Finally she pulled up again and sighed, staring into his boisterous, mischievous face.

"I have to take Katrine to and from kindergarten, plus run errands, and deal with whatever your mother is doing." She began with furrowed brow, "I certainly won't be able to spend all day at home waiting for you to call."

"I mean, we'll find a regular set time to speak," Nyx sighed, quietly pushing a strand of hair back behind her ear again. "But we always have to talk at that time."

"Sure," Emilie smiled, raising her eyebrows "Or you could just not go."

Nyx looked downcast, the smile falling off his face for a moment. He began to run his hands up and down Emilie's torso soothingly. He didn't want to say what he knew would only disappoint her.

"It's your duty," Emilie spoke first, giving a nod. "I know."

"As the time gets closer, the less I feel committed to that duty," He replied with a whisper. "Knowing what I will be giving up."

They embraced once more, this time Katrine leaning her whole body onto Nyx's broad frame and he immediately wrapped his arms around her, holding on tightly. They knew there would only be a finite number of times left to hold each other in this way but they were going to savour it each time.

"We'll be here when you get back," Emilie reminded him softly.

It was Nyx's turn to nod, "I know."

Emilie sighed again, playfully pouting at Nyx's forlorn expression. "What time do you want to call?"

He smiled a little, "You get home usually around three in the afternoon, right?"

She shrugged, "Depending on traffic and errands."

"And Katrine goes to bed around seven?" Nyx continued, as always planning and co-ordinating.

"Well she's in bed, but we both know she's never asleep right away," Emilie replied, with a roll of her eyes.

"Okay well I will try to call around six thirty? Is that a good time?" Nyx asked hopefully.

Emilie laughed, "Good for me, yes, but what if that's four in the morning ship-time for you?"

"Then I'll get up!" He exclaimed.

"Every time?" Emilie asked, moving her hands to underneath his arms in order to tickle him in return.

"Every. Time." He replied seriously, hugging her tightly again.

The two embraced once more, rolling around the bed and back to the other side. Nyx looked to his wife, his face beaming, "But you still have to promise to answer."

"I will Nyx!" Emilie cried, "Of course I will. Every time."

[USS Pandora - Current]

"Connecting..."

"Connecting..." The message on screen continued to show for over half an hour as Nyx sat and waited. The call wasn't even transferring to her PADD or her shuttle; it was as if subspace comms couldn't get through to her in Copenhagen at all.

With frustration, he prodded the screen to disconnect the call and leaned back in his chair. He had to think that maybe she was just busy, maybe Katrine was playing up, or most likely his mother had hijacked them both for one of her insane political events. Still, he wanted to sulk. He had what he believed to be good news to tell Emilie and now she couldn't be reached. He considered trying to contact his mother to find out why, but he didn't quite have the energy to speak with her right now. And he certainly wasn't in the right frame of mind to deal with his mother.

Instead, he could only move to the window and watch as the stars whizzed by, that forlorn expression returning to his face. Once they reached the Carnwennan Station, he would be able to relay off their subspace to find out where Emilie had gotten to, and hopefully speak to her about the hunt for Tomar.

Until then, he could only wait and wonder what happened to their best laid pans.
