ON:

Tisar climbed aboard the Hideki class with a very bleak outlook. He was good at shuttle repair, given some time he could probably fix most of the communication relays the way he needed them to be, but the state of the Hideki class shuttle was poor to say the least. When he first entered things were in such a state of disarray, panels open, wiring exposed, carpeting sodden, that he wasn't even sure it would fly to begin with. With his captors demanding though he managed to get it under control enough to find out that it looked worse than it actually was. Of course it wasn't ideal either, but it would do. Anything would do.

Once he was actually away from The Carnage he scrambled to set his plan in motion and try and communicate with the Starfleet vessel. In his desperation he failed to correctly estimate the age and condition of the systems he was trying to manipulate. Even though he was more than familiar with the shuttle type and how to work on it, he wasn't an engineer. In the end, he fried most of the computer systems. By that time it was way too late. At least he could save a tiny bit of embarrassment in that he was also shot down by the planetary defenses, almost immediately. The bad news was that now he was taking a nose dive hurdling toward the planet like a rock. There was of course an emergency system, but after many, many frantic attempts to get it to respond he was afraid that it might have fried along with the rest and his seemingly inevitable death would be his own foolish fault.

That was the last thing he remembered when he woke with a start, surrounded by hot, acrid smoke and pressure and pain. There was blood in his mouth, but he was alive. He wasn't really sure why. He tried to move. He could feel that he would be sore for weeks to come, but nothing seemed to be broken. He found himself pushed right up against the exterior door which was partially open. He put both feet against it and braced himself. It was hard to get leverage in the tight spot he was in, but he knew his strength was in his legs. He pushed and the door gave way a little. With quite a bit of effort, over the next several minutes, Tisar pushed at the door until it was open enough for him to slide out.

= Pandora - Bridge =

"What the hell just happened?" Captain Nyx asked as he stood from his chair.

The Pandora had been waiting with baited breath for the arrival of the three Ravager scouts, weapons locked and ready to defend the planet Salvaxe from the pirate's arrival. However, it appeared one of the scouts had malfunctioned and - as if out out nowhere - the planet Salvaxe managed to defend themselves. Beams of phaser-like energy had shot out from the planet's surface and destroyed one Ravager ship in midair, while another was sent hurtling to the ground. Inside the Pandora, there was a sense of shock as the Ravager threat was quickly neutralised, and along with it an added concern over how exactly this supposedly isolated world managed to defend themselves...

"Wooow... did we know they could do that?" Fick asked. It was all he could think of to say.

Owen sat open mouthed in the XO station as he took in what he'd just witnessed. "Well...that information certainly wasn't in the Merrimack Database," he quietly commented.

After a pause, he looked over at Ensign Fick to answer his question. "Ensign, I don't think anyone but those on Salvaxe knew they could do that," he pointed out. Owen turned his attention to the Captain.

"Sir, whilst this is a surprise action from Salvaxe, we should try and render aid to that Raider if we can," he offered. "Whilst there seems to be a leap in technology on the planet below, a crashed Cardassian Hideki Class vessel could also cause untold damage and concern with the population."

"Yes," Nyx agreed but there was a concern on his face. "But what damage could we do if the Mendaz find us? We are responsible for the Ravagers finding the planet, how can we fix this without further risks to their independent existence?"

Ensign Fick looked over his shoulder at Nyx, since the man was almost directly behind him. "I think that the damage is done, Captain, but I agree with the Commander in that we should probably clean up that Hideki Class. I mean if they can shoot things down way out here... how not technically advanced can they really be?"

"The Raider has impacted the surface, but the vessel appears to be intact," Cailus interjected warningly from his console. "There are multiple Mendazian aircraft converging on the Raider crash site, ETA fifty minutes. The other Ravager ship has retreated outside of weapon's range and is holding position."

Nyx looked to the faces of his crew, and he knew that they were right. He gave a nod. "Mr Griffin, assemble a team and beam down to the crash site. Any Ravagers should be beamed back onboard the station, dead or alive. Find a way to destroy the wreckage beyond recognition. Take whomever you need with you."

"Yes sir, we'll get it done," Cailus answered. The Security Chief immediately left his station and strolled to the turbolift, his eyes full of cool self-assurance.

"Major Halliwell, scramble your fighters and pursue that final Ravager scout," The Captain continued, "We can't let them try to reach their friends."

"Mr. Mindo, you have a rapport with our Talarian guests, and they seem to know a lot about Salvaxe. Try to find out from them if the Mendazians know about the Ravagers." Nyx suggested, "And why they have a killer death beam on their surface."

=/\= Aye, sir,=/\= came Mindo's voice over the comm.

"I need everyone else monitoring the planet, find out everything we can about them." Nyx added, looking to the remaining crew. "We may inadvertently created an opportunity for first contact between the Federation and the Mendazians."

Owen had a thought for a moment. "Captain, based on this, I feel that we should have some backup just in case the situation turns nasty," Owen advised him.

"I can get a coded message to Captain Rao on the Palatine to rendezvous with us asap...we're not in a position to take on large numbers of Ravager craft at this time," he cautioned.

=/\=Captain,=/\= came a voice on the comm. =/\=This is Rapal. May I come up and speak to you privately?=/\=

Nyx was taken aback for a moment, wondering if the Talarian's timing was another remarkable coincidence, before finally replying, =/\= Certainly. I will have Security escort you. =/\=

=/\= Thank you, Captain, =/\= Rapal replied.

Owen looked across at Nyx with a concerned look on his face after the request came from Rapal. "Erm... I'm getting that bad feeling vibe really fast," he admitted. "Why do I feel like we're missing something here."

"I've had that feeling since entered the Expanse." Nyx replied with a dry smirk.

Fick glanced over his shoulder at the Captain and then Owen. "You guys are making me nervous. What do you mean with the 'bad feeling' talk?" His gaze shifted between the two suspiciously.

Owen looked over to Fick. "Steady Ensign, remember we're Starfleet Officers... part of the job is acting on your gut feeling and that's what we're doing," he explained.

Fick chuckled and nodded. "I know... I know... but somebody's gotta give you guys crap." He grinned over his shoulder. He didn't mean any harm and he really was kidding, trying to keep the mood light. It could get very serious and he knew it had to be serious sometimes.

"Enough," Nyx replied, a stern look on his face. "Let's banter later, we have a job to do. Everyone, get to work."

The Bridge fell into silence as the crews began to disperse and start their duties.
